A few days age I posted a question on the main forum about autoimmune thyroid disease seeking information for a friend. Evelyn suggested to me how to do a search on Pub Med and as a result I found some rather interesting suggestions.
Apparently silent (undiagnosed, mild) coeliac disease (inflammation of the small intestine caused by gluten intolerance) can be the trigger for many autoimmune diseases, Sjogren's, and the cause of lactose intolerance.
I would suggest that those who are lactose intolerant consider this possibility and try adding gluten free to starch free. Since you would already be avoiding wheat it shouldn't be too difficult, and if it works dairy could be back on the menu.
