Kat - Right on the nail. Mebbe nowadays it might be too many patients for one doctor to handle? But whatever the reason, one does need to be very aware, be pro-active and self-advocate.
One word re side effects. One can always come off a drug, see IF the side effects disappear, and IF they do, retake the same drug, then IF the side effects reappear, one has most likely nailed the problem. That is what I'm doing right at this point in time with Timoptol LA, glaucoma eye drug. It is systemic does have a number of side effects, one beng diplopia - double vision. I have developed double vision, so have taken myself off the med. Will 'see' what transpires, if vision clears then will restart the Timoplol and IF dble vision again, then, have nailed the problem to the med. At which point I try a different glaucoma medication.
I had a problem with an anti-hypertensive drug. Mega big time double vision. Tracked the problem down to the med. Did the above exercise, yes, drug was the fault. Side effect as soooo bad that I was unable to drive, as far too dangerous!
*Always be aware of meds. Not to look 'for' problems but to be aware. And remember, side effects 'can' build up. Can be OK for years at a time, then suddenly, bang! Ohhh-oohhh.
Kat, TG an alert doctor worked out yr husband's problem. Strewth. One scary time. Hope you advised all the doctors concerned.
Take care -
