This is meant to stimulate some discussion, more specifically, because this is one of the questions that left unanswered leaves me some doubt about this diet.
I am doing a LSD (low starch meaning I eat fruit, and cook my vegetables, other than that, NSD), and while I think it feels good, and seems to be helping me along, I always ask myself, does the science behind the diet actually add up?
Here is the reason for my skepticism. If the Kleb bacteria is the culprit which ultimately leads to the inflamation, and Kleb feeds on starch (and a little dairy, complex sugars, etc.), then you get the conclusion that if you cut out the foods which feed the kleb, you cut out the inflamation. Conversely, the opposite must also be true, feed the klebs, and you get inflamation. If this is true, then how do those who follow the diet still get flair ups. For example, I see constant reference in dragonslayer's posts about what he does durring a flair, yet he seems to be a NSD purist. The question necessarily then arises, how does one such as he get a flair? (just using dragonslayer as an example, please don;t read anything into it). Is it because there must have been some starch that person ate that he didn't realize? I have a hard time accepting this response. What about all of those times that a little bit of starch that snuck past didn't cause any problems?
While I certainly am under the impression that diet/fighting the kleb is extremely helpful, I have a hard time believing that it is the entire answer.
Jut curious what others thoughts are on this. I would love to prove my skepticism wrong.
