Thank you Cindy. That really helped me. I'm like so many others in feeling that I'm getting ready to grab my kids hands and jump of a cliff. The things you said made me sit down and really think about this in a fresh way. I have to keep battling with the trap of thinking of bringing school home. With the things you said I realized that things can go alot different than I was first worried about. We can go about how and what we learn in our own way. Dahhh thats the whole reason huh. Thank you for bringing me back to reality. I am really looking forward to this. Thank you so much for your incouragement.

Jumping off a cliff was what it felt like at first. I knew I would homeschool my LD daughter. My husband wasn't altogether convinced, but he agreed to go to a conference with me. The keynote speaker was Patrick Farenga. On the way home Roger asked, "When are we going to start?" We discussed it for a week, put the legal wheels in motion, and took the boys out of school 2 weeks later. I've never looked back.

I recommend learning all you can about homeschooling. Find out what your state's policies and regulations are regarding home education. Attend a conference, if you can. Learn all you can. Join a support group. They often have play groups, field trips, workshops, co-operative classes, and curriculum sales/swaps.

"Homeschool" is not neccessarily "school-at-home." Attending a school doesn't mean you are getting an education. Your children started their education before they were born. Remember the wonder in their eyes when they discovered their hands? That's education. Walking, talking, potty-training, using a spoon, blowing your nose, tying shoes, sharing toys......parents are good teachers. Learning to read is no different. Can you tell I'm enthusiastic about homeschooling?

Good luck.

Hugs,

Cindy

Thank you Cindy. I will be attending a home school conference as soon as I find one schedualed in our area. I love reading on the net but wife likes conventional books. I think if we attend a conference she too will be convinced. Maybe I could even get grandma to the conference LOL. Missouri has a very open law for home schooling. All I have to do is keep records showing required subjects and write letter stating intention to home school. I asked the oldest what he thought about it (he really enjoyed his first year of school). He liked the idea. That shocked me. Well I will keep you all posted to our progress. I'm sure I'll be very excited as soon as I make out my first order for supplies.

Just look at it this way......You are jumping off a cliff! And then you can fly!!!!! Spend a little time with them, just gliding, and find out where they're interested in going. Then you can soar with them into those areas. There's so much to learn out there. And it's everywhere! Everything they do will become a learning experience if you just spend time guiding them into new realms of the areas where they find interest. I think I'm learning just as much as Jessica is.
