As the topic say, have any of you tried this? On vacation right now but when I get home this is the first thing I will try in order to leaviate my pain and stiffness. The hardest for me has been to maintain a good diet. This will be much easier with one meal a day.

Early on in NSD, when I got frustrated with finding a pain free baseline diet, I tried water fasting. I made it 24 hours and hated every minute of it! I tried it again after getting some good advice from another poster. I found it easier when I slowly worked up to it by gradually lengthening gap between meals and eating less before going full fast. But I still hated it.

I have read many positive things about short-term fasting - Dr. Valter Longo of USC has done some really interesting research on the impact of fasting/calorie restriction on longevity, the immune system, and cancer.

I have also read that long daily fasts like what you're proposing are more beneficial for men than for women (e.g., markers like blood sugar, cortisol, exercise, etc.). And from what I can gather from various paleo forums, this kind of fasting seems easier to maintain for men than for women.

I can see the appeal of it if you're struggling to be strict with the NSD. I hope it works for you. Good luck!


Suspected USpA. HLA B27, xray, u/sound, blood tests all -ve. Ancient history of plantar fasciitis, SI joint pain, knee arthritis. Recent history of tendinitis, neck pain, debilitating finger pain and stiffness (especially mornings). No diagnosis, no meds.

2010 - stopped eating dairy
2012 - stopped eating wheat
2014 - stopped eating all grains
Jan 2017 - discovered NSD - 98% improvement in symptoms, continually amazed by my results, wish I'd found kickAS sooner

I tried to eat once a day for some time in the past. At this moment in the past I already had discovered the link between eating and increased pain, but I had not discovered the link between starch (and for me also animal procuts) and pain.

I ate my big meal with maybe 95% of the day's calories in the morning (including starch) . As a result I had the peak pain during daytime and lower pain levels during night. Duing daytime I then waterfasted or I had some vegetable juice or some raw salad.

Eating once a day in the very morning could reduce my pain levels by maybe 20-30% at night. This was partly result as lower caloric intake overall and partly a result of moving pain from night to daytime.

Fasting has the fastes and most significant effect on lowering my pain. However since I'm already thin my fasting options are limited.
Trying to avoid the food that causes me pain is much more effective than occasional fasting / eating once a day and has reducee my pain level by 95% so far.
