I'm afraid the only fix for this is to cartwheel instead of walk!

Lon,

(Got my PT hat on here...)

Whilst I do like Alan's suggestions laugh2 , I wonder if the sock problem is secondary to what you're describing as your 'funny gait'?

Where the pain is in your foot sounds as if it could a tight plantar fascia, and if your heel is tilted when you walk this will strain your plantar fascia and give you pain... maybe you have a tight calf - goes hand in hand with tight plantar fascia when the heel is tilted. You might need orthotics for your shoes to help with this, or it might be because of standing/walking with your knees hyper-extended...

Can you get yourself to a good PT for them to have a look at how you stand and walk?

About the only PT I can offer from this distance is this: hugss (no - I don't do that with ALL my patients! blush )

Hey there brother Lon, have you tried low cut sneaker socks? If Louise is right they may not help you either but it's a thought. They do make them in cotton and nylon. I'm with Mig can't wait to get back to my flip flops. A bit hard when it's April and still getting snowtorms.

Hey Lon you need to give the sock suspender another look. I and many other officers have em, they are not called sock suspender's.We use them to keep our uniform, dress, collared shirt tucked in and looking sharp and pressed. They are easy to use, you just clip them to your shirt tails and then to the top of your socks. Your socks are always up and in place plus your shirt always looks good, no crack exposure problems. They are properly called shirt stays, they are many styles. They cost around ten dollars for a set. Once you get used to changing your dressing routine a little(shirt and socks first) it becomes habit, I still dress that way stays or not. Just one of the little secrets for looking like you just laundered and pressed yourself. One of the big reasons I like em is the fact they keep my socks up and in place.

(Haven't had to buy men's socks in a while) Can you get some dress socks that are very stretchy (thus quite small-looking in the store)? When you put them on, they would cling to your feet, conforming to every part of the foot and ankle. Maybe they would stay put better?

As for the calf pain...If it is how I read-I have calf pain all the time. A previous foot doc said it is from plantar fasciitis. The fascia tissue continues from the bottom of the foot, around the heel and up into the Achilles tendon and up into the gasrocnemius muscle that makes up the calf, in part. He had me doing stretches all the time. For me, it doesn't cure it, but it helps. Do the stretching with the knee straight for the gastroc, and with the knee bent for the soleus (the other part of calf, although this part is not really involved in the pain).

If it isn't this way, sorry. Hope you get your socks straightened out. Have to admit that before I read the post, I was wondering how you could have injured yourself and titled the post 'twisted socks'. hugss
