If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Jeanne
Thank you for the advice it was helpful. I am now desperate to try anything to stop the progression of this disease. Many years ago I did an exclusion diet in hospital which didn't work but guess what, all they gave me to eat was rice, potatoes, lamb and pears so that might explain it. Over the years I've tried various diets but until finding this site I had never heard of the LSD. I'm desperate to avoid more surgery at the moment as I've had so much done. Two days ago I woke up and my right elbow (the left has been operated on) was bent, just like that. I've been trying to straighten it out ever since but my God the pain...I know you will all understand. I'm always amazed how fast pieces of my body collapse. I feel like a condemned building being shored up with scaffolding! My book hasn't arrived yet so can't wait to read that. Over the years I've discovered I too am sensitive to apples and sugar and with high cholesterol I'm worried I'll lose too much weight avoiding fats as well. I'm thin enough! Buying iodine in England may be a problem so might have to chat up my GP brother in law. I'll move heaven and earth to get some though if that's what you recommend. Out of interest does anyway else get really peculiar feelings in their legs? Aside from the pain in my lower back, if I'm standing I always feel that my legs are about to collapse. It's difficult to explain but it's pain combined with a numbness and odd feelings running down my legs or is that just me. I wish I could find the words to describe it because I find it...well..a little scary. Thanks again Libby

Hey all,
Inadvertently drank some starch in a tonic some well meaning friends brought over. Hoping it passes soon. Still nearly paralyzed painful arms/hands (typing 1-fingered). Still on antibiotic, still eating sparsely.
Take care all.

I'm new to this and really confused. On the list of foods to avoid on this site it says to avoid coconut but I'm reading coconut flour everywhere as being ok. Also apples, some people are recommending a 3 day diet of just apples to start but cooked apple is listed as bad. Where do I start? Also, is almond flour ok? If so does anyone know any English stockists as I can't find anything on the web. I'd be grateful for any advice, I've had AS and RA since 1983 and now my sons are looking like they have AS so if a low starch diet helps I'll try anything. My condition is very aggressive. I've ordered Carol Sinclair's book is it good? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou Hi Libby, Please ignore the "food to avoid" list. It really should be removed from the site or updated as much of the info on it is incorrect. It was put up years and years ago and ALWAYS confuses newbies. Coconut Flour and also fresh or dried coconut is definately OK on the No Starch Diet....even more so than almond flour. Some people react if they eat too much almond flour. My husband eats coconut flour products every single day. Apple are OK as long as they are ripened properly...otherwise they can be starchy...same with all fruit really. Cooked or raw is perfectly fine with all fruit. You are on the right track with Carol Sinclair's book....that will give you the best start. And most of all...if in doubt break the iodine out! That's my motto. Always test for yourself and don't just trust a "starch content" list or what someone else says they can eat. We all have different starch tolerance levels and also the starchiness of certain fruits and vegetables seems to vary depending on where you are in the world. Perhaps something to do with growing methods or varieties grown, not sure. Once you get your book you'll be away. It took my hubby about 3 months to get the diet sorted out...so it may take some time for you too. If your condition is aggressive like my husband's was then you may need to be quite strict and possibly also cut out dairy....we shall see in the next few weeks I guess. Also, some people get great results very quickly like within a couple of weeks but for most it's a gradual improvement over time...months rather than weeks. All the best, keep the questions coming and we'll help as much as we can. PS: you may also want to look into LDN (low dose naltrexone)...just google it. It's helping quite a few members here at KickAS and has no side effects. Very safe med.

Hey Guys, I wanted to thank Chelsea for the chocolate brownie/cake recipe with coconut flour. It saved me from failing in a house where a new plate of christmas goodies arrives every 30 minutes on Sunday! I love my neighbors dearly. They know I don't feel well and have the best intentions! That cake hit the spot and coc. flour has a lot of fibre, I am thankful in more ways than one! I ended up taking a prednisone pill this a.m.... Frustrating, I know. It did get me the use of my right hand back though! Prior to nsd it took 60mg of pred to phase me. Today was just a 10mg pill. Much better. I also realized I have been off my LDN med for about 3 weeks surrounding an outpatient surgery, so the pain meds would work. I am excited to get back on LDN in conjunction with the NSD. The pred seemed necessary if Christmas was going to happen for my 3 little ones this year. By the way, WOW on the weight loss from eating very little and strict NS. 10 lbs since Thanksgiving. My family were all grateful for jeans that were easy to do up, as they had to dress me last week. sigh. Happy Holidays to you all. -D

Hi libby, I know the feeling you are describing with the legs. mine is gone now, don't feel that, as long as I stick to NSD. AS is a horrible disease. Sorry you have been through so much surgery. Is it all AS related? I hope you find some relief with the diet. Happy Holidays!

Donette...... The brownie/choc cake is a life saver for Jon too. I can't take credit for the recipe tho as I got it with my coconut flour when I used to order it from Australia. I can see you're a "glass half full" type of person..always looking for the positive....eg weight-loss as a hidden bonus of NSD. Most people are worried about packing on the pounds this time of year, hehehe. I'm sorry things are rough for you right now...hope they improve soon. That's great that you only needed 10mg of pred instead of 60mg....so you are making progress!

I find it amazing that you can get away with eating kamut. It is wheat after all. That said though, that's fantastic! Do you do this daily? Have you tried other starchy, non-wheat grains? It's also impressive that you can scarf down some oat based products (in moderation). It's really unbelievable how individual our tolerances are.
Happy New Year!
Kind Regards, Jay
