If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

It’s been a while since I visited. I looked at the NSD over a year ago, but I guess I wasn’t ready to give up the starchy foods. I’ve been in much pain for so long and I refuse to take meds. I remember reading that in the long run it will worsen the problem. The only treatment I’ve had is chiropractic once or twice a week which is just a temporary fix. Also I self medicated with beer and “herb.” I came back to this site and decided to give the NSD a serious trial. I started 3 days ago using the quick start rules. Eating mostly meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits. (Testing the fruit and veggies w/iodine.) The only dairy is just a little cream in my coffee. Yesterday, I found it remarkable that I had much less sacroiliac pain. Today is the first day I woke up, put my feet on the floor and had almost no Achilles pain. That is indeed remarkable! I remember reading that we have to heal the git, so I am not drinking beer now. Also, I’m making sauerkraut again. Thanks to all the people here who share their experiences. The information here is much more valuable than anything I could ever get from the medical profession because it comes from people who have been there. The way I feel now is that if I have to give up bread and other starches, it’s worth it. The pain was ruling my life. I now have hope for the future!

A quick result like yours may well indicate no significant gut damage and a small beer to celebrate may well prove OK. With such quick responses you could also try adding dairy back in and if you are 'lucky' like me then it would just be the major starches that are to be avoided.
Welcome back to the dietary guinea-pig forum and I will drink to your new found hope!

Hi there Reen that's wonderful to hear about your progress and spirit If your body works anything like mine, then you will find that giving up starches is a very small price for the health benefits you get from it. One experience when I went NSD was that when eating a little starch on LSD, then I had cravings for more starch, but when I completely removed all starches, these cravings went away (possible having something to do with insulin stabilisation). After 1 year on NSD I don't have any problems at all to stay away from starches, in fact I don't consider NSD as some special "diet" but rather the way of eating meant for me. When you have done NSD for a week or two, you may experience like I did that it does not work as well any more. Then you may have reach the next level of sensitivity, and may need to look over your diet more in detail to see what is bad for you. I passed a couple of these "sensitivity levels" on my way to NSD. All the best Andreas

Good one Reen. I agree with all Bilko says here, beer does the body some good as well as the heart. I drink wine daily, mainly red, but feel the effects of port so stop at the lower alcohol levels - even if mixed down, spirits are a no-go for me. Dairy cream and butter are mainly fats so they are the best dairy and i have them often. If there is one hypothesis that appears to be "proven" on this diet it is that the less the gut damage, the quicker and better the results. Go well.

Thanks for the post. Lucky for me (I guess) NSAIDS never did much good, so maybe a couple of beers and some herb was a better choice for my gut. Butter and cream are the only dairy so far. I can actually do without milk and cheese as they never agreed with me anyway. It's interesting, since giving up the starches I actually have less gastrointestinal discomfort. Maybe I'll have just one beer this weekend and see how I react to that. Don't want to push it though. Thanks again for the input.

Hi Andreas, It's good to see you are still here. It's encouraging to know that the diet is working for you. I'm glad you told me about reaching levels because at day 3 it was a huge relief from pain. Now, 6 days later, it seems to have leveled off, but it certainly hasn't gotten worse. I'm going to look at the things I've been eating and see if there is anything questionable that may contain starch. (perhaps a fruit or vegetable) Another thing I am trying to do every day is take a teaspoon of cod liver oil. The days are getting shorter and the sun is lower on the horizon. I hope to keep my vitamin D levels up for the winter. Thanks for the post. Reen

I may have a beer this weekend to celebrate and to see how well I tolerate it. Thanks for the encouragement!

You might try gluten free beer, perhaps it is gluten that contributes to your pain. It sure was for me.
