If one more person tells me to drink orange juice I'm going to scream. On Thursday, I started getting the typical symptoms of a cold- scratchy throat, stuffy nose, etc. Friday it turned into a full cold and ever since I've been flat on my back. Friends keep telling me to drink Orange Juice and i'll be on my feet in no time... If only it was that easy. I'm currenly on Pred which surpresses my immune system even more; along with a cocktail of other surpressant drugs. It's not as easy as to drink O.J and rest! I faithfully drink a glass of O.J every morning and vola, sickness has still arisen!

I am starting to go stir crazy, seeing the four walls of my room day in and out. I have had to go to campus yesterday and today, yesterday for 1.5 hours to present to act out my piece in my group's play that we wrote based on a traditional Indian Epic and today to write a grammar test.... THe test was only worth 10% of my mark and was a no brainer so i didn't bother putting up a fuss about writing it another time- just got myself there, wrote, got it marked straight away (i passed, enough said) and came straight home- fresh air was also good for the system.

Now the cold has surpassed my nose and throat had has made it's way into my chest/lungs which makes breathing a living nightmere. Phnomonia at 1 year of age left a nice 2 cm scar on my left lung which having any time of chest cold brings asthma like symptoms... I had great doctors who provided me with lots of "just incase drugs" so i can self diagnose effectively. Naturally, lying in bed day in and out has brought the A.S. monster into full swing. I try to do stretches, but it's impossible.

The only good thing about the timing is that we have tomorrow off due to ANZAC day and then a nice long study break for 10 days (i'm suppose to be working on submitting 6 major assignments during that week)... They will all get done i'm telling myself, somewhere between coughing and sleeping- In procausion to getting sick around this time, i started all my assignments way early and most are finished and at the state where if they need to be handed in, they can be! Thank God for the proactive skills I had on this one!

6 weeks left and I can call myself an official teacher... Being sick is the hardest when i'm so far away from home. Just need a mom hug to get me through the week.

Sam

((((Sam)))) I am so sorry you are sick and away from home. My grand daughter went through this a while back so I know how you feel. I want to be the first this morning to give you a great big grandma hug.Um-m-m-m-m--m-m-m-m-m-Uh. That is the best I good do with our hug sound. Of course, being a grandma hug is also a Mom hug. It has just been given a lot more times. That one was in case the first one didn't work but I guarantee it was a good hug. Sweetie, I hope you are better today and I congratulate you on hanging in. You will be a great teacher and we need more of you.

Now go drink some orange juice. Just kidding. What I am going to tell you is to get the Sudafed tablets that you drop in the shower and they fizz up this wonderful menthol steam that just makes you feel better even you aren't sick. They don't have any sudafed in them; just the maker. It is just a wonderful menthol moist air treatment that will really help you breathe better and feel better.

I will be thinking of you today. I just pray that you will be well soon and have the energy to do all of the end of year stuff and then can go home and get the best hug from your own Mom and sleep and sleep.

More Hugs.

Sorry you're not feeling well, Sam. Nothing worse than being stuck in your sick-bed when everyone else is in "holiday mode".
Personally, I find hot lemon laced with honey much more beneficial for a sore throat than orange juice, BTW!

I was lucky when my daughter was at Uni b/c she was able to commute from home, so I can imagine how miserable you must be feeling
So, here's a "mom" (((((((HUG)))))))) from the West to try and cheer you up a bit.

Sam,
Don't you just hate it when someone gives you a simplistic answer to a complicated situation? Whether they realize it or not, they are implying that your sickness is your fault because you are not doing the right things, like drinking orange juice. Wouldn't be wonderful if it were really that easy?

I'm so sorry you are sick at exam time when you have so much important work which must get done and on which your grades depend. Is it possible to ask some of your professors for an extension on some assignments? That would help to get the pressure off of you. If they won't give you an extension, then all there is is to do the best you can and look forward to being an official teacher.

I hope you are feeling better soon. I'm sending hugs your way.

Hi Sam,
I'm so sorry to hear you are still not feeling better. I'm not going to give you any advice, I know how that can be. I just wanted to give you a big fat warm loving hug...from a mom.

Sherri

Hi Sam,

I hope you feel better soon. Here is a tip that I hope will not offend you: have you thought about taking odourless garlic? You can buy it in tablet form and it helps when one has a problem with a compromised immune system. I was told to take it by my doctor 7 years ago when I had a lot of throat problems.
