Loz, isn't that the one that we bought for you when you came to the Toronto party? I thought it was one of the 'safe' ones. Ah well. I tried.

Hugs,

Hi Kat,
I'm quite certain it's less problematic than comparable non-rice beers, but yes that was the one. Any minor suffering I had following the beer was more than made up for by the first taste of real beer I'd had in years. Mmmmmmm, the taste of beer

I had always liked Sapporo, but since that first cold taste after our round of golf on boiling hot Royal Ontario it was immediately elevated to my favourite lager-beer. Of course, I had just met my future wife for the first time, so that may have been an influence. Mmmmmmm, the taste of true love....

Loz, honestly? It was meeting Jeanna. But if you wanted, we could just say it was the beer. Of course, it could have been the heat! From the sun, I mean.

Many warm hugs,

Kat

I tried to give up beer due to a medication I was on a few years ago. Beer won LOL I just couldn't give it up. I've given up so many other things in life because of AS and I won't give up the few things that make me happy.

I didn't get any ice fishing in this year, mainly because the lake never had enough ice, but I'll be bass fishing as often as I can in the summer. I'm so sick of winter. I keep thinking about being in the boat with a fishing pole on a hot summer day. It's what I look forward to all winter long.

I'm with scotty, gotta love canadian beer (I'm from the states, obviously, but do my best to make it to Canada at least once/year, where I enjoy a case or two of real Canadian beer.) (As a native Wisconsinite, I have to admit one of the main things that crossed my mind when deciding to start the NSD/LSD was exactly that.. no beer? ..that, and.. no DAIRY?.. that's proving to be the toughest part)
I'm confused on several notes though:
-Beer is starch free?
-Rice is starch free?
-I'm having a hard time differentiating starch from carbs.. I know this is a question for the diet forum, but it fit well here.
Last weekend I relished some beer at a friend's party (keg beer, no less ), thinking it was my last chance to enjoy beer before I started the NSD (as of yesterday morning).
I'm willing to give up many of my favorite things to ease the pain, that's not even a question!
I thankee for any responses.

Hi Chelsie from another Chelsea!

Don't know about beer but rice IS starchy as are all grains and flours and anything made from them: wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, quinou, spelt, kamut, tapioca etc etc

Also beans and lentils are starchy as are root vegetables.

Here's a link that may help you:

Take care

All this talk of beer and fishing is making me long for summer. Alas, we're getting 6-8" of the white stuff today, so summer still seems so far off. Perhaps another trip down to Florida will help me out

Oh, beer/fishing, couldn't let this one slip by:

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.

Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

BMANN,

First let me say that my company has a location in Gillette WY and man, (pardon the pun) I would move!!!! My AS KILLS ME when I go there in the winter (and spring and fall) Summer was ok. Just kidding!!

Anywho, I am glad you found us!!! AS is overwhelming on its own and the myriad of treatment plans makes it worse in the beginning. The biggest thing to remember is to read about all your options, pay attention to your body and make a plan to treat YOUR AS. There are alot of folks here that have had GREAT success on the NSD, as well as other plans, so learn from everyone! Read alot and post alot!! We are all learning from each other!!

On the BEER issue.....OMG!! I love it! Nothing better on a hot Southern summer day!! (or after a long day at the Gillette plant) I am with Loz, there is a point that the joy of beer outweighs the AS after-affects of it!!

Heine(ken)-Ho, Neighbor!!

hi
did someone mention summer? i cant wait! i dont do cold! (cold is killin me at the mo, its been -2 and snowing!) i cannot give up my beer either!, i am not doin the nsd, as i looked into it and the cost of buying all the foods proved more expensive and bein on a low income i cant afford it. i should give up my beer due to my stomach probs in fact i went a good few months without any cus of it, but i am slippin into my old ways again! and yes its friday nite i will b havin a beer tonite! (i just have to limit myself)
i would say if u want to drink beer u do it! but... if it does affect AS too much i am sure u'll know about it the day after.
take care
heather
