Hi Guys!

This isn't AS related although by the time it is over I should be in another full flare..lol

Some of you know I have a darling daughter Victoria (Tori) who is 10. She came to me and her Dad last wednesday night with what looked like a little sore on her hip.

I said sweetie could be a heat bump, or a zit..she was like "A ZIT" I said don't worry about it, although I could see around it was red about the size of a dime.

I kept an eye on it, and by friday morning it was looking bad. I told my husband after school on friday if it isn't looking any better, I am taking her to our Dr.

Needless to say by friday afternoon she could hardly walk and it looked HORRIBLE, I could tell just by looking at it that it was probly in her blood by now.

I love her Dr. she has been Tori's Dr. since her birth.

She took one look at it and said it was a staph infection. She measured it and it measured 4 inches by 8 inches (that was the red around it) It was hot to the tough which I knew it had fever in it.

By then Tori had started running a fever. We got her started on Minocin. The Dr. drew with ink around it and told me Tori needed to rest this weekend. No running or physical activity. She said if it traveled past the ink line very far that we would be putting her in the hospital.

Well, I am not one to get excited to quick raising 4 children and doing in home daycare for 15 years, but this has really shaken me up.

Tonight was her 5th pill she still has 15 to go, the sore is looking better although it has traveled past the ink. We go back tomorrow so the Dr. can look at it again. What is worrying me is that she is staying very dizzy and I am not sure she isn't getting an allergic reaction to the medicine.

The Dr. told me that these infections are called super bugs like STAPH and they are getting harder and harder to kill out. She told Tori...don't share anything with your family or friends even though most times it is ok that is how bacteria is spread, even though 1 person may not be sick they can have the bacteria and give it to someone else.

Another reason I am so scared is about 2 years ago we went thru the exact same thing with my husband..it was called Millicent Resistant Staphyllococus Aureus (probly not the correct spelling) With my husband they started the same way...we were like Ewww you have a zit, they were like on his side and traveled up his arm. His got so bad that even after like 3 rounds of potent antibiotics he still ended up in the hospital deathly sick and had to have surgery to have like 5 of them cut out. The Drs. said it wasn't the flesh eating bacteria but you could have fooled me. It was so bad that he had open holes left after surgery and the Dr. wasn't sure at one point if he might have to remove one of his armpits.

Even after the surgery when he came home he was on IV Vancomycin for 30 days. It was a nightmare I don't EVER care to repeat. It was hard enough seeing my husband go thru it, I can't imagine one of my babies.

It is 2 in the morning here and I keep going to her room and checking on her. My sweetheart has rarely ever been sick, she has thank goodness been given most of my husbands immune system.

Have you guys or anyone you know ever gone thru anything like this??? I am scared to death. Should I ask her Dr. tomorrow to do a blood test just to make sure the infection is clearing out? I know I am probly just being paranoid, but I could not live if something happened to one of my babies.

This month March is the 1 year anniversary of losing my Mom and it has really been a horrible year for me. I just pray she is going to be ok.

Please, Please guys offer some prayers and good thoughts her way.

I will find a picture of my angel so you guys can see her.

Some days just knowing you guys are here and reading your thoughts and kind words keeps me going.

Thanks so much for being here for me,

Lisa

Lisa,

I seem to be like you, not one thing but runs of them....I certainly know how you feel about the little one, I realy hope that this clears up quick.

My brother had one in his neck from the engineering oil he was playing with it took some time to heal and packing wounds etc but it did heal......

All you can do is monitor the little one and visit the Dr as required.....at least you have prior experience and know something, but the worst thing is waiting.....and not worrying too much!

You on DMARDs Steroids etc, be careful about you not catching it!

I am so sorry to hear that Tori is sick. I pray that by the time this is posted, she is doing 100% better. As a mom, I can understand how you feel. There is nothing worse than when one of our babies are sick.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Lisa,

Sorry to hear Tori is having a rough go of it. Pray that you comes through the treatment good as new.

Do they have any idea how this was contracted?

I hope Tori is doing better today. Hopefully, she won't have to be hospitalized. But if need be, then it is for the best. I will keep her in my prayers. Let us know how she is doing after her appointment.
Take care,
Cara

Hey Guys,

Just a note, after a rough night the rash is worse and she is now throwing up which she just had her morning pill.

I am getting ready to call the Dr. now and get her in.
