Hang in there Julie.... I know the feeling... stopped a few weeks ago myself, not using anything this time though... just the knowledge I'm doing this for me and the ones I love.... I think the important thing is you have to want to stop... the patches will help but without you actually wanting to stop, you'll find an excuse to go back to them...

Good luck... and may the "force be with you" ...

Hi Julies Congratulations

well its your lucky day thats my specialist subject, its what I do for a living right now! basically this will probably be one of the hardest days, but what your probably doing is repeating a behavoir pattern that was common whilst you were a smoker, here some quick tips! if you always enjoyed smoking with a tea or coffee I'm affraid they'll need to go right now, especially for the first few quit weeks, these are seen as primers, in other words when your brain gets the taste of them it expects the drug to follow, also food is another favourite, Clean your mouth at once, just as you finish chewing the last piece of food, strong tooth paste, and a mouth wash form the fridge!(real cold) use glucose tablets in between to help pep up lost energy(as long as you not diabetic) move away from your comfort zone in the house, as simple as watching TV or reading in another seat in the room! Also its really important to sit down and do some deep breathing, as this was a really good habit you had got into as a smoker, and deep breathing in its self will release endorphines, the bodys feel good chemicals. If you want to PM me with any specific questions Im more than happy to help. Will be in work for another hour or so, if not I can get back to you tomorrow.

KEEP GOING LOOK HOW WELL YOU'VE DONE ALREADY

Good job!!! Laura gave you some great advice. I had a friend who was trying to quit smoking, and she said she would do fine all week, but on the weekend she would go out with some friends, and without realizing it she would be smoking again. So you do need to change your life style for awhile.

Hi Julie

hang in there. I know you can do it. Just picture the cigarette as being the AS monster and that you are going to kick it.
Lucky for me I never had worry about kicking that habit so I don't really know what you are going through. Good Luck

Take care

Hello again,

The way of dealing with a weekend situation appart from not panicking, is to simply change the usual drink! so stay clear of your regular tipple! but so that you don't think that this stopping smoking is one big punishment, go out, if your comfortable with it but Change Your Drink! anything that you know for a fact, that you wouldn't normally drink when out, or something you can have with a citrus mixer, ie orange, lemon, bitter lemon, pineapple, and tomatto juice just DON'T GO with Cigarettes! also don't have too much or willpower gets zapped!

Keep it going Julie!!!

One of my direct reports took this week off from work to attempt to quit smoking... she wanted to be able to exercise to take her mind off a smoke anytime the thought came up (that and she said she would be very ornary).

Best wishes!!!

Tim

Thanks everyone! Boy is it tough!!
I'll just keep kickin till either I kick it or it kicks me!
I very much want to quit. I quit two years ago and stayed off it for a year. I started again at the time of my masters defense. I had it licked! What an idiot.
