Suppression of COX-2 in a setting of gastrointestinal inflammation and ulceration has been shown in experimental models to result in impairment of healing and exacerbation of inflammation-mediated injury.
I developed colitis after several months of Naproxen, my GP px Vioxx as an alternative, and almost immediately my GI tract went completely haywire, I thought it was the last effects of the Naproxen, but by the time I realised it was actually the allegedly wonderful Vioxx I ended up with a heap load more side-effects (count 'em up!) Must have only taken it for about 10 days - if that - but the effects went on for a good 3-4 weeks (how I *fondly* remember the grandma's ankles effect - ugh!!!) but at least by then I was at least starting to give up the Metoclopramide and Ranitidine, and my brain felt like it was mine again.
Shame the NSD/LSD isn't 'prescribed' instead of a multitude of profit-making drugs with dubious claims and too many side-effects. Thank the Lord for KickAS!!!
Take care,
Jan
