HI everyone,
Just thought I'd give a quick update because I've had a significant improvement to my healing....After my 1st surgery (chin on chest correction) pain was bad, I lost dexterity in my hands + numbness all over my body but after 7wks I had a dramatic improvement and was back training and lifting weights. I spent the next 9 weeks putting on a significant amount of muscle & strength before I went for the 2nd surgery to correct my upper spine....I knew the 2nd surgery was going to be massive, especially combined with the 1st only 16wks before. I knew I'd be unable to train but in my mind I said I wanted to be back training before the end of the year and because the 2 surgeries were going to take me from a guy who was deformed and looked weird to somebody who looked more or less normal, I wanted to join a gym again instead of just training at home. Well the surgery created extreme pain, I've got rods and screws from my neck all the way to just into my lumbar spine : C4 all the way down to L 2 .....After the initial pain throughout my entire upper body went away, I was having the most intense pain in my upper back muscles every time I moved my arms. It felt like my shoulder blades and bones were cutting through my muscles because they were in places that they had not been in years (where they are actually meant to be)....my research from other people who experienced similar pain suggested it might never go away or at best take a couple of years. Well I pushed through the pain and I would stretched and swing my arms about, breaking up the internal scar tissue and getting my body accustomed to it's new posture. After 5 weeks I pushed myself through a couple of very light workouts and then things started to really improve. By 6 weeks I was back training and it's now 8 weeks since the 2nd surgery and on Christmas day I joined a gym. I've had 3 great workouts so far, it feels amazing to be back training and working my muscles in ways I've not been able to at home. Obviously there are certain weight lifting exercises I won't be doing including free weight squats and deadlifts but besides that I feel great and my goal is to continue building my fitness, strength and physique. I have an appointment to see my surgeon in 3 months, we will be discussing a possible 3rd and final surgery again on my neck. People are telling me I look normal again but I feel my neck could be tweaked a little more to give me a couple of changes I would like to my posture. I'll keep you updated when I know more..

So I'm going to focus on my training and continue to rebuild my life....mind, body and soul.

Embrace life,
Anthony:)
