Yeah yeah yeah - I know it's bacon and eggs. I was thinking to suggest eggs combined with a variety of things like sausages or ham, then having written eggs I thought well, no, to be really English it would have to be bacon, so I stopped there!!!

The trouble with toast and jam or marmalade is that the body digests it rapidly and it causes a rapid increase in blood sugar. This causes a spike in insulin production to deal with the sudden rapid increase of blood sugar and you end up with a drop in blood sugar below where you were when you started. Proteins and/or whole grains that digest slowly will cause a slower rise in blood sugar and therefore avoid the spike which leads to the drop.
I think the marmalade must be lower in sugar content than the jam which is why you are managing when you have marmalade but not when you have the jam. However, it would be healthier to add some protein to your breakfast.
