That is disappointing. Have you given thought to training your own service/therapy dog with some of the tasks you need the most assistance with? I'm sure it requires time & commitment but it could also be fun. There are resources on the net for reading up on the possibilities, and maybe a local trainer would be willing to assist you? I don't think a miniature dachshund will be able to reach the light switch...you might need something a tad bigger
