Mine is certainly OA in the root of the thumb, as to its being carpal tunnel, yet to have the tests for that - nerve conduction tests. I don't think my CT is involved, but we'll see.
As to the surgery, does not always work. Suggest that you check it out, thoroughly. Easy to google up. Was checking it out for myself, oh-oh. My mother had it, and still continued to suffer from on-going problems right up until her death at age 94yrs. As for strength, I have good grip, but can't use the hand for bearing down, as in cutting into summat - cutting apples in two for instance, and using the big pruning cutters and the garden shears, very painful. Blasted nuisance - but whatever, I aint gonna have that surgery.
