If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Mark, I noticed your remark about how rowing hurts like hell. I have been rowing since 1964 in college. In 199, I first noticed a pain in my right hip which gradually worsened and moved into the spine over the next ten years. I was finally diagnosed with AS in 2001. I still row because it is the only exercise I really enjoy and can tolerate, probably because I have done it for so long. I does hurt sometimes, but overall, I feel better after an hour of light rowing, and some days even feel good enough to compete again. I recommend rowing for AS sufferers as a form of exercise, but if you don't row correctly or do it too forcefully, it will be painful or impossible to do. I also feel better the next morning after rowing. Just thought it might help some one. Rowr "Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated."Mark Twain

how on earth do you guys bike?? ;-) the minute i ride any more then 5 minutes my legs start to go completely numb and when im finished everything from my waist and lower is numb. I just got over a nasty moose sounding cough which kept me from doing any of my normal excersizes but pilates and yoga are the only two that i can do with no pain.
even walking starts to make the SI's and bursa's ache and start barking at me.

Hi Rowr I noticed your remarks on still rowing. I was wondering if you practise in a skiff or in a boat with more then one. I was an avid rower when I was diagnosed. My rheumy told me to stop with it immediately so I started running, he wasn't to keen on that either but I felt good doing it. I think keeping so active saved my life. Now I hear you're still rowing I wondered if I stopped rowing for nothing though competition would be too hard for me with this disease. However without interference of other rowers in a boat and in a skiff (symmetrical) I think it could work out well. I was thinking of going to the gym here and they rowing machines so I could try out what the effects are. Another thing: do you have some kind of backview mirror or something cause looking over the shoulder to see where youre going will be difficult Gerard

Damian,
Yes I exercise. It is who I am. I have done all kinds of outdoor sports over the years and have loved every minuet. Currently I am into road bike racing. It is the hardest thing that I have ever done. I love it. However, after my first race last year I discovered that I have AS due to pain that became cronic in my SI joint. It tottally laid me up all winter. I am an avid backountry skiier and hardly did any at all this year due to difficulty with my SI joint carrying a pack and breaking trail. I am back on the bike but have to really grit my teeth at time to deal with the SI joint pain. I can not run at all because it hurts too badly. I swim frequently and that is the least impactful. I have started the NSD and did not suffer for long without all of the carbo loading. I have not experienced a bonk since I started the diet. Pain is frequently bad. Accpunture helps temporarily. What I don't understand is that people say that AS gets better with exercise. So I did PT for months, I streach and workout alot. So, if that is truw why do I hurt so bad after exercise. Have I been miss diagnosed? I also feel stiffer at night that in the mornings. I take Indocine twice daily and it takes the edge off of the pain. What more should I be doing for myself to be pain free? I am seeing an additional Rheumy at the end of the month for a second opinion. Do you suffer from SI joint pain from biking?
Cheers
Howard
