Eric has been having some problems for about the last month. We went to the Orthapedic Surgeon yesterday and he ran some blood test, and Erics Sed rate and CRP levels are real high.

The mighty AS has come back, only this time in his hips. He is walking with a funny gait now, to try to compensate for the pelvic pain he has.

His Rhuemy has decided to wait for the MRI that the OS is trying to schedule (damn insurance) and take it from there. He is on prednisone for now, with the Rhuemys home number tucked away in my wallet in case it is needed over the weekend.....

At least I still have 2.5 boxes of Enbrel in my fridge that is good. The exp dates go from 4/03 - 8/03.

We had a good year. Erics AS has been in remission for one year this month, so we know that it can be done. Now we are going to fight like the devil to put him back into remission. This is just a temporary setback. Basketball season is just around the corner after all. The child loves to play basketball.......

All prayers welcomed. The kid needs them.......

Thanks
Lori

Lori,

I am sorry to hear that Eric's AS has reared its ugly head again. I would much rather see his pain come to me and let him be a kid and enjoy everything that life has to offer than him having to worry where or when the next ache is going to show up. He is in my thoughts and prayers. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I hate it when kids are forced to deal with these situation!!!!!

Last post I wanted to read here. Tell him he's still my darn hero. Maybe he's built up some sort of immunity to the ENbrel. Who knows?!? Let Doc's figure that one out.

As for basketball, tell Eric when the AS is hurting and he feels a step slow pull up and shoot from the outside.Key to B-ball and AS flares is a good outside shot, particularly when heredity didn't make it likely that you would be jumping center.

Lori remember sometimes it goes away again just as fast as it came. Ain't nuthin' stoppin the bushels of good thoughts headin' his way from NYC or thereabouts. Even think I saw Bruno heading to church to "compel" Fr. Guido to offer up a novena.

Lori,
I am so sorry to hear of Eric's remission ending. It breaks my heart to see any child suffer from this &*^%$^%$$ disease.
Will for sure be sending out some extra prayers for Eric to get through this and back on the road to his next remission SOON.

Take care,
Pam

My heart goes out to you both, not the kind of news I wanted to hear about my little miniature golf playing pal Eric. But on the bright side, Enbrel did it once, it will do it again. I just read a medical article (Medscape, I think) about Enbrel and Remicade that suggested strong evidence that Enbrel not only relieves the symptoms and prevents future damage but also can repair damage already there. Evelyn sent me an article that suggested the same may be true with Arava and AS - - one of the few articles I've seen linking Arava and AS and good results. The other thing is that although everyone worries about things like TB and Enbrel, another article states that 90% of the cases of TB with people on Enbrel occur in countries where TB risk is much higher than the US, and can be reactivated TB. But a bummer he has to go back to the needle sticks. Hopefully it will kick in after a few short weeks before it gets any worse for him.

((((HUGS)))) to you both.

Lori,

Everyone is right, he can go into remission again. Maybe this is a flare up and will calm down? I pray it's short lived.

Hugs to you all,

linda
