The first time I tried to quit smoking I was so mean and nasty to the wife and kids it was awful. I came home one day after work and found a suitcase with a carton of cigaretts on it, when I asked my wife what was up she answered; "your time, you take one or the other you (SOB)". I made a good decision and took the carton. The next time I decided to quit was in Northern Idaho but rather then quit "cold turkey", every time I wanted a cigarette I would smoke a joint. After about 2 weeks of this I had forgotten I even smoked, my social security #, and even where I parked the car. It's been 18 years now and I still don't miss the cigarettes but I would like the car back.
Keep trying and a good sense of humor, you'll make it. Good Luck. murrayo

Hi Connie,

You have a strong motivating factor to do this so hold that thought.

One of the big downfalls is that smokers expect it to be difficult and fraught with problems, and it ain't necessarily so. Allen Carr's books are brilliant for helping to change that mindset from one of expecting failure to one that expects success. Visit his website here http://www.allencarrseasyway.com/

Don't forget to post us your success story!

Take care,

Jan

I agree with Pete Cold turkey is the way to go. When you crop the tail of a dog you don't do it an inch at a time. Good luck

I tried many times for 25 years to quit. I always seemed to find a reason why it was OK to delay it to another time. For 25 years, it was very hard to even think about it amd ot was very very hard.

I may be weird, but when I finally quit last year, it was very easy to do. I quit cold turkey. It didn't hurt to have my doctor look me in the eye and tell me that I was going to die a miserable death if I don't stop soon. But, in reality, I quit lying to myself. I quit making excuses as to why I couldn't walk up one flight of steps without looking like I just ran a marathon. I realized how much I was spending on something that was making me miserable. It took about three days for the chemical side affects to subside, and then it was really easy, because I had already finally REALLY wanted to quit.

JUST WANT TO SAY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED TO MY POST. YOU PEOPLE ARE SO NICE MAKES A PERSON FEEL REALLY GOOD WHEN IM AT A LOW. WELL ITS BEEN 31 HOURS AND 28 MINUTES SINCE MY LAST CIG. AND I HAVENT CHEATED ONCE BUT SURE THOUGHT ABOUT IT. ITS SURE FUNNY HOW A LIFE AND DEATH RESPONSE TO SMOKING JUST DOESNT GIVE YOU ANYMORE EXCUSES. I WISH I HAD A DOLLAR FOR EVERYONE EXCUSE IVE USED. (NOT TO MENTION EVERY CIG IVE SMOKED). AGAIN THANKS FOR MORAL SUPPORT, I SURE NEEDED IT.

CONNIE
