Bilko,

I undrstand the cross reaction and molecular mimicry. The question is whether or not hormone activity perhaps from the Thyroid or Pituitary is neccessy for this to get started.
We go for years and then suddenly the AS strikes. It seems connected to truama to the body, or GUT stress of parasites or infection. Yet many HLAb27 candidates do not get AS. Perhaps there is yet another factor involved.

Elaine Gottshell's book explains celiac disease very well and has helped me to understand the danger of any undigested carbs getting past the small intestine. Or worse yet, lower gut flora colonizing in the small intestines. I also understand better why gut permeability is so bad. It is like bowel processes taking place in the abdominal cavity. YUK

Thank You,
ike

I know pot in general isn't good (healthwise) , but what does it do bad for arthritis?

Ike, you don't have any problems with wine?

Ike,
It does help to know that someone will be asking how I did!

Janet, if I may, I'd like to respond to your question...
"Aren't we automatically gluten free if we aren't having any wheat? "
Gluten can be found in wheat, oats, rye and barley and their products, ie: soy sauce, some additives such as "mono and diglycerides", "Malt" and "malt flavoring" and many other forms of additives. The term "natural flavoring" may very well be a wheat product. Caramel coloring and citric acid may also come from wheat.
Although most strict NSD'ers, I would guess, are most likely gluten free, gluten is definitely a different beast from just "starch".

Hi Laura,

The pot has went on for the last 25 years for me. I'm just quiting because it just doesn't fit in my life anymore. I'd use it as an escape rather than for occasional relaxation. It was a "feel good" crutch that I was tired of hiding. If I have pot, I smoke it. I was "burned out" much the time, and since most of my friends nowadays do not smoke, I feel like I was starting to avoid social environments. It also seemed to have become a hinderance in my marriage. The health risks were not a factor. It had no affect at all on AS, good or bad.

As for wine: Beer definatly makes me hurt and I struggle with moderation with it as well. Wine however is harder for me to consume excessivly, especially since I don't really care for most of the cheaper stuff. I know that alchohol can be hard on the gut so I not will allow it to become a substitute. It has not make me hurt as yet but I'm conserned that anything that is not good for my intestinal health is a bad thing. It can be so hard to Unwind. (OOpsI'm staring to vent)

With Warm Regards,
ike

P.S. sorry I know I'm a long way from the subject of lactose intolerance

Janet,

no, you are not automatically gluten free if you avoid wheat foods. Wheat is used in making beer and gluten for clarifying wine. Those more knowledgable on gluten free eating may know of other sources.

So testing for gluten intolerance would curtail drinking habits - a high price to pay for science! The LSD is much easier methinks. And as for the timing of your onset of lactose intolerance ..... I haven't got a clue.

Our dearest Lon,

I would be truly sorry if you were to have gluten problems.

But a friend who follows a gluten free diet has discovered a pils brewed in Germany that doesn't cause any problems!

Thanks guys for the clarification! I have been able to be LSD for a couple weeks! I am enjoying it to the fullest! Well, not too much, I promise!
I have food allergies to ALL grains! All of the gluten grains on the list that is, I wasn't allergic to some of the grass grains like rice, so I believe except for tiny amounts in maybe salad dressing (??) I am gluten free. I also don't drink so I avoid the gluten that way too. I have been able to tolerate some rice and there is a rice pasta that I have had a couple times.
I am wondering if people who are sensitive to beer have a yeast allergen. That was one of the higher reaction allergens on my list so glad I had automatically cut it out with no bread.
Thanks for all your help,
Janet

Bilko, a nice alternative to beer and wine are any of the distilled liquors for a gluten free drink... The fermented alcohols like wine or beer may keep some gluten, but it's thought that the gluten would not travel to the final product thru the distillation process.
THANK GOODNESS, because Jose Cuervo is a friend of mine!

bilko,
I have lived with so much gut pain and bloating that I often have to change pants because of gas build up. It is nasty business and both sides of my family suffer with different types of ailments. I know that wheat, toomuch starch, too much carbonated bev. send me in a tail spin. I also bleed if i eat too much diary.

Most embarrassing is the fact that a surgery to fix a fisure has left me in pain and unable to predict or control movments.

So the stress at a wedding or funeral can be pure hell. but I do enjoy life and I will listen and try to put some teeth into my decision to get my health back!

Thanks to all of you for the discussion. I really did need you.

Old Lon
