Hi Pete,

I am putting minimal information on the web presently untill we are granted our name and incorperation by the IRS and Secretary of State, but here is a breif overview.

The mission of Power over Pain is 3 fold. To provide flexible jobs for people with chronic painfull diseases, and to attempt to make agreements with the IRS that would allow those of the employees to work when they are able to, without risking loosing their SSN disability.

To finantially assist and promote research on the coverd diseases.

To provide education on chronic painfull conditions, to the public, doctors, patients, and legislators. Also under the education section of the mission would be scholorships for both/either sufferers of chronic painfull diseases, and/or students going to college to study areas that directly effect sufferers.

I hope that this gives you a good idea about what we are planning to do as an Non-profit.

Take care my friend

Daniel

Hi Daniel,
I haven't received the logo, yet - have you sent it via email?

Good luck with the project, sounds interesting - where is the income coming from to pay the employees?

Hi Daniel,
What a great idea!

I just wanted to say I especially applaud the idea to make part of this site and place of info for doctors and other care givers for chronic pain patients.
My experience for the 30 years I have lived with AS has been that doctors are so far out of the loop in treating people with chronic pain... they actually cause more pain then they help.
I would suggest a section of tips for doctors in talking to AND listening to patients with chronic pain. Because, for the most part, we try to be positive and up instead of letting our pain drag us down doctors don't hear what our pain really is, they hear the bravery and perseverance as "It's not that bad"... wrong!!

Best of luck and I will watching your progress. If I can think of anything I can do to help I'll be sure to jump in. For now, you all get my prayers for a big success.

Best regards, Winona

As far as I know, the people who regulate earnings limits for SSI disability are at the Social Security Administration.

The main problem (as I see it) is that Social Security does not recognize the concept of partial disability.

The Veterans Administration is light-years ahead of Social Security in this respect, and the VA percentage disability system might be a viable model for how SSA could handle partial disability.

Now, it would take some detailed modeling to determine what the budget impact would be, but I'd bet there are a bunch of "totally disabled" people out there who would just as soon work part-time (if they were allowed) to to offset the additional people who would then be free to sign up for partial disability because they can't meet the criteria for "totally disabled."

I think the solution here actually has to come from Congress; in this case, SSA is just implementing the law as written, and current law does not allow partial disability.
