If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

When I had palpitations my doctor told me to cut out coffee and red wine. To be honest I didn't think it would make any difference but it did. Also cut out monosodium glutamate such as that used in Chinese cookery.

Yes from over here. Horrible. Like ones heart is going to jump out of ones body ! I do drink coffee, but mostly instant as real coffee, although much nicer drink, would be too much caffeine at the rate I drink it ! Red wine in moderation.
I have palpitations and claudication and dead toes... Toes go deader and deader when walking, recover with rest, but also go dead / claudication, at night. Have to hang legs out of the bed.
All such a putrid bind...!!

Taking 400 mg of magnesium supplements a day almost eliminated chest pain or a strong heart beat. My heart beat didn't race. I have IBS and chronic loose stools and so I assume that I'm poor at absorbing nutrients. I've never had vitamin, mineral and other nutrition level tests done. I have had a comprehensive stool test done and my microbiome is highly skewed toward a firmicute population as opposed to a bacteroidete one despite a diet that strongly supports the latter.
I also take a vitamin B complex in an attempt to reduce homocystine levels and hence vasospasms that woke me up at night. It seems to mostly work so long as I stick to a clean diet.
Running 4.7 km in the morning before work two or three times a week may have helped.
I hope this helps

My palpitations are starting again after 6 months of none. I've been to ER a few times and sent home after hours of tests showing nothing wrong? Doctors try to give me anxiety drugs even though I mention maybe there is inflammation from AS in heart. It all seems to be a guessing game, from one symptom to another which sucks. Sometimes it feels as if my body is giving out and I'm youngish (39), fit and have been on a NSD for 2 years. The only thing I can think of why they have returned so strong is I haven't taken my electrolytes in over a week? They were out of stock so am getting some today and hope the palpitations will go away!! I can't take feeling like this- it's rediculous- I feel like I'm an old grandma but have a young family to take care of! Sorry just venting!! But also I take a lot of NSAIDS which does cause heart problems.

I do and am absolutely certain they are biomechanical and caused by the affect AS has had on my spine causing vagus nerve irritation
When my heart starts to race I always first feel a triggering tightness or pressure on my neck
If you google vagus nerve and inflammation you will find several interesting articles but I am certain this is the source of my palpitation
I have been able to stop them usually in a few minutes with deep breathing focusing more on long slow exhaling while intermittently sipping water

Hello Steve:
The vagus nerve is a cranial nerve and doesn't run through your spine. But you are right that there could be a neurological effect: your vagus nerve might not be calming your body, or the spine can be pressing on other nerves that go to the heart or just be sending erroneous signals to the brain thus stimulating the fight or flight response. The deep breathing may be relieving irritation on the nerves in the spine. I get crazy sensations and pain in the thorax in the middle of the night and I need to move around to make them subside... I often wake with a pounding heart, weakness and a feeling of no O2 in the body. They go away with deep breathing and just moving
There was one time that I felt like I was having a cardiac -- neck pain and left shoulder, arm and back pain. It would last for hours. I just ride it out. It happened during a time I was waiting for a shipment of Mg. Seriously, the Mg really helps calm my heart.
To enhance the calming effect of the vagus nerve watch a lot of comedy, practice laughing yoga and meditate.
I hope this helps.
Kevin
