Well the 1st 3-day water fast I did was the toughest one....I started it on a Thursday morning and went untill Sunday morning....the mental part of it is the hardest part....by Friday night all I could think about was food!!.....and Saturday I didn't have to work so I was struggling to keep my mind off of it with nothing to keep my mind busy....I woke up Sunday morning and had some eggs and a few strawberries.....but I felt like I could eat for the whole day!!! It was tough.....the sleep I got was the kicker.....I slept almost the whole night through on the 3rd night....which is non existent for me on a regular basis

Next time around I didn't want to deal with The Weeknd which is usually planned around what our family is gonna eat!....so I ate supper Sunday night and didn't eat again untill Wednesday night.....just drank water as the hunger thoughts would come and go......it went much better the 2nd time....it was busy at work so I actually found my self not even thinking about food at all for long stretches in the day....I think it is impossible to stay away from hunger thoughts early on......When I feel like giving in just tell myself this is gonna make me feel better and maybe help me heal my gut to cure me!!! That's the dream I have I guess!!....I felt normal on all the days( i mean I wasnt walking around like a zombie cuz I haven't had any food)....had plenty energy...the only thing was maybe I would get a little drifty towards the end of the fast if work was to busy....sorry to write so much but I hope this can help you....i couldn't find anyone I knew that even thought about a fast before so I had to just go off of a little research online and a post I read on this website.....everyone's reaction to fast will be different I would guess but mine was not what some people have online.....one person said they just laid in bed for 3 days to conserve energy which I have no idea how that's possible because you couldn't stop thinking about food!!!!...I just went about my normal routine and just cut the food out.....I have a young family to feed as well so I even had to sit at dinner table and feed my children!!! And I still didn't eat!.....you can do it for sure!!! Just have to put your mind to it!!!

As far as what I eat when I come off of the fast I have played around with it.....trick is not to eat a full on meal!!! I usually just have a 2 eggs with some sauerkraut....cold sauerkraut is amazing when you haven't had food for 3 days!!!.....and a couple strawberries......trick is to chew your food really well so your stomach can digest it easily....I have even had chicken and boiled broccoli a few times....just chew it up good!....it is tempting to eat everything on the table!......I think any soft foods are good options.

I have done 7 three day fast total to date....one of them I went for 4 but came down with a cold so I had to break it.....Idk I read that one fast a month is good for the digestive system so I went with it.....I don't not eat anything whatsoever...no coffee....no vitamins....no probiotic pills....no krill oil.....no nothing!....just water....it's something when you can literally feel the pain leaving your body....to me it's obvious what I am eating affects everything....I was thinking about trying a bone broth fast maybe one of these times....problem is I haven't had much luck making a tasty broth.....once again sorry for the lengthy convo......hope this helps you!

Thanks, this is really helpful!

I'd assumed I would try fasting on a weekend and keep my activities low key, so that if I felt off or weak or spaced out I wouldn't have to be at work or the like. But you make a really good point about the busy-ness and distraction of work - it's not unheard for me to be late to a meal at work and not even notice. That might actually be easier, or at least plan it for a busy weekend.

I've read many positive things about short-term fasting - Dr. Valter Longo of USC has done some really interesting research on the impact of fasting/calorie restriction on longevity, the immune system, and cancer. So I tried it to see if it might help my pain and it was soooooooooo hard.

But that was long before I found KickAS and learned about the starch connection. I feel like I could try it now with a much stronger sense of purpose, similar to what you describe.

Thanks again!

Jcool,

The broth I make is from chicken feet and been bones. I roast the beef bones for 30 minutes on each side (60 min total) in the oven on 500 degrees. While that is going, I'll throw chicken feet in a pan and boil them for about 20 minutes. Then I rinse them off in cold water, cut the nails off (the use nails to dig in [*bleep*] lol), wash them really well in running water. Once the bones are done, I'll put those and chicken feet in slow cooker filled with water (I boil the water in a kettle and put boiling water in the slow cooker - this way I don't put hot bones in cold water plus it speeds up the process of cooking. I add 2 tbsp of apple cider vingar and let it cook on slow for 12-18 hours. Once done, I run the broth through a strainer into a clean pan. I then put the pan in a sink full of cold water to cool the broth quickly and then I store it in glass jars - about 4 days worth. The rest I freeze in plastic containers (I freeze one serving per container so I can easily take it out and heat it up. Once heated, I add some Himalayan salt and drink it - it tastes awesome to me and I sip it like a cup of tea.
