I am going in for a consultation for this treatment on Wednesday of next week. I have been in a downward spiral lately, and the last month especially. Started physical therapy to try to address neck pain and chronic headaches. Only made things way worse and now I am scared to do any exercises.

I am curious if anyone has tried this and if so what your results were. My latest x-rays showed cervical stenosis, but the pain that is laying me low right now is in the thoracic spine. It's so bad I can't be on my feet for long before having to lay down to get relief. Hoping that my Rheumy, who I am seeing Thursday will refer some further imaging.

It's not acting like AS pain. It gets better with rest. I am OK in the morning, usually even OK sitting in a comfortable chair after getting up, but as soon as I spend any time on my feet the pain in the upper back is so bad I have to lay down again.

After 34 years, I am used to the pain. I manage it with anti-inflammatory supplements and essential oils, and it has allowed be to function and I have been coping OK that way. This pain is different and I have lost my coping mechanism. For the first time I am more than discouraged, more than just sad. I am descending into feeling really, really depressed.

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Scrambler (Calmare). It's going to be pretty expensive if I decide to try it, and new treatments are always scary.

Boel

Hi Boel,

I had never heard of this therapy so I tried to look it up. I was not able to find any medical abstracts that say this is an approved therapy for pain management or AS, but I didn't search too long... perhaps I missed something.

It sounds similar to a TENS unit, which some people have found relief using. I think I'd be inclined to try a TENS unit first, only because there seems to be more information available on it.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing so much pain. I know what you mean about usually being able to cope. It sounds like you might need a new treatment strategy. Just remember there are options out there and as you recognize that you're feeling discouraged and depressed, perhaps it is time for you to consider a new approach.

Don't give up hope that there will be better days ahead. Keep looking for what will work for you!
Take care

Thanks mig, I appreciate the response.
Saw a rheumatologist today, and got a referral for an MRI.
Will be going in Saturday for that. Happy to get this investigated, and hoping for an explanation to this new and very different kind of pain.

P.S. It is not an approved therapy for AS. It has FDA clearance for certain types of pain.

Hi Boel,

Glad to hear that your Rheumatologist is investigating further with an MRI. Sounds like a good step for sure. New pain is always worrisome and worth checking into.

I hope they figure it out!

Boel- I am wondering how you are doing today?
This is a lonely stinking disease, but you, you are important and must step back and rethink what you can do today and tomorrow to get help.

I lived near Klamath Falls, Keno area for 9 years. I would live there again. both My son and my youngest daughter lived in Oregon also.

Without exercise, I get into a real dark place. but working through the pain is a beast.

Please let us know today....how are you?

Hi Lon, Sorry I never saw this response from you at the time you posted it. Many months later and I am still not doing well, but I am getting treatment in the form of PRP (platelet rich plasma injections) Still am mostly confined to sitting and laying down, with very limited time on my feet.
I am also going for water exercise, the weightlessness is marvelous and allows me to move in ways I cannot do on land.
Still a bit despondent and depressed, but trying hard to hope for better days.
