If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Good afternoon! I discovered my AS in the beggining of this year. I am 21 years old. Since then, I went to a Non starch diet and I also cut many unhealthy foods from my diet, like milk, cheese... I am 1.68m, and I always had problems with weight. Before i start the diet, I was 58 kg, which was okay.. But now, since the beggining of january, I am already 53.7 kg. The diet has been very good for my pain, it really helped me. I am without drugs since I started the diet. But the weight problem is making me giving up of it. My actual diet is: For breakfast: coconut flour with two eggs, one fruit with some seeds, honey and coffee (without sugar) Between lunch and breakfast: one fruit and some nuts. Lunch: Chicken, a variety of vegetables made with coconut oil and sometimes a little bit of rice. Orange for dessert. Between lunch and dinner: I repeat my breakfast. For dinner: I repeat my lunch. I eat nuts and fruits when i feel hungry and it is not time to eat. I'm really struggling with it. I'm looking for hints. Thanks !!!

WELCOME, GabrielGGN:
So happy You have found relief with the NSD, and I know that the weight loss can be an issue.
I believe You may have cut out too much, and suggest reintroducing a little at a time. Although sugar can be a problem for some, it should not contribute to AS symptoms directly and some aged cheeses can be very useful in keeping weight.
Your overall diet is too narrow, given the basic choices we have, but the primary issue would certainly to do what I call "reverse Atkins" diet. He said NEVER eat dessert, so to achieve the opposite effect, ALWAYS eat dessert! And it should be a sugary sweet concoction in any amount: Remember--"There's always room for Jell-O," but meringue, marzipan, halvah, apple pie filling, proper ice cream, etc are all good. Avoid custards and anything with caramel of course. Some dried fruit uses (way too much) sugar--like dried pineapple chunks or rings--You can use these when snacking and they are handy. Almonds and raisins are fine, but dark chocolate morsels make these heavenly.
Please get Andrea's "Pure and Simple Paleo" book and start with some of the recipes from her site.
Add tofu, fish (especially salmon and tuna in moderation), almond butter (can be mixed with 20% peanut butter for flavor and still remain safe) on Andrea's bread or celery stick classic. You are eating rice in small amounts, and I suggest eliminating this in favor of mozzarella in a lasagna or "spaghetti" casserole with either the squash (after testing with iodine) or mushroom "Miracle Noodles." This can be frozen and reheated when needed.
NEVER give up!!
HEALTH, John

Thanks for the hints. I will try to add some of these foods into my diet, although I'm from Brazil and I can't find some foods that you mentioned.
Actually, I don't feel confortable of adding too much sugar on my diet. I'm afraid that I could develop some other problems, but I will try to reintroduce a little at a time.
Thanks again!

Hi! I'm new to all of this but this is an issue I am currently struggling with as well. I have always been fairly thin, but since receiving a diagnoses four months ago I've lost over 10 lbs and currently weigh close to 112 lbs (50.8kg), at 5'6"(1.67m) tall.
In my case, I lost the most weight during the first month of my first flare. All the medication interfering with my appetite combined with not knowing what to eat contributed significantly to the problem. That being said, I have maintained the weight I am at now fairly easily since then (just not able to gain any back)
Recently I've found that adding more 'safe' carbohydrates like coconut flour has helped me maintain my weight. And eating more high fat foods seems to have helped too (I eat a lot of coconut, coconut oil, avocado -not sure how safe this is yet-, nuts, almond butter.)
For example, I was eating fruit as a snack but now I eat it with handmade coconut whipped cream for added calories (this can be made without any added sugar but I like it with a little honey mixed in)
I wish I had more answers to share but I hope this will help!
John- I looked up the Pure and Simple Paleo book you mentioned in your post and it looks amazing! I can't wait to download it! Also, I am going to pick up some pineapple rings at the grocery store tonight -I hadn't thought about buying them dried but they sound delicious.
Best, Lauren

I struggled quite a bit with weight and energy issues early on with diet.. what helped me:
- 3 day apple fasts (made me more efficient eater, adbsorbing what I needed) - walnuts and raisin mix as snack - organic yogurt (Stoneyfield Farms) after I could tolerate dairy
I had many ups and downs my first year on NSD, it has now been 14 years.
Regards,
Tim
