I recently got all my blood results and was anylising them, here are the figures:
-----------ESR (mm/hr)------CRP (mg/l)

05/10/09-----39---------------26
26/10/09-----67---------------37
27/07/10-----71---------------39
26/09/12-----38---------------11
19/03/13-----22---------------6
17/09/13-----19---------------7
09/09/14-----29---------------11

According to the report the normal range for ESR is between 0 and 10, and for CRP the range should be less than 5. So I have never been in range and have always had abnormal readings. I was just wondering should anti inflammatory drugs take me into the "normal" range. Or even with this drugs will these things always be raised due to having AS. Lately ive been really stiff and having a flare up so it has had me thinking sure the medication can completely stop the inflammation cant it?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

Mine have never been ABnormal, but I've had periods of gruesome pain throughout my life anyway... I took NSAIDS for 40+ years and mostly they made me feel better.

Sorry I know its off topic but i see that your from colorado. Do you use mecinial marijuana?

I'm going to Amsterdam and i'm going to get bloods done before i go and have them done when i get back to see if marijuana can lower my pain and inflammation.

Most of the stuff available in the UK is too strong and just makes you sleepy, so im going to try some with high CBD, im open to anything so gonna give it a try

No it's OK! All info is good info!

One of my sisters has a medical marijuana patch and ointment. It really helps her a lot. Evidently there's also a type here that helps with children's seizures as well.

One of my friends takes Marinol for anxiety, and I believe that's a pharmaceutical process...

I'm not willing to experiment with it as it's not regulated.

Is it completely legal now in Colorado? I find it bizarre how the USA has 1 president as the UK has 1 prime minister and yet in certain states it is a criminal offence to be in possession of marijuana and in others is completely legal. I know the USA is a lot bigger but to me it is like legalising it in London and making it a criminal offence in Liverpool, just doesn't seem to make sense. I would have thought Obama could just say legal or illegal thought the whole USA. I've heard that some people who have disabled children in the USA are moving to the likes of Colorado and Washington state just so they can medicate theirs sick children which is wrong.

Hmmmm..... I don't really know about all the legalities.

It seems like medical marijuana is legal to prescribe and consume, and also I believe a certain amount can be in one's possession.

But as I understand it, it's still federally illegal. Obama isn't able to make such a decree, nor its any president. The attorney general has issued side story of statement saying that the fed won't actively pursue casual or medical use.

It is all very interesting though.

Your values aren't freakishly high.
ESR's can often go above 100 and for people with an acute serious infection CRP can go to 500.
I found a NSD brought me back into the normal range from values similar to yours.

The highest either of mine has been is high normal. And I've had some major pain issues and flares, but they don't show in lab work, only in pain.

As a medical technologist, I've turned out ESRs that were >160 (my lab's high max - as high as the Westergren tubes read for the set-up we use). It's not specific to any disease, either. Lots of things can make it high. Same as the CRP. Some rheumys will use them a lot, but others don't. Still others tailor it to the specific patient.

What little I've read on the MJ issue says it is still a federal crime in USA to use it. Even though some states have approved it. It's not legal in my state, so it's of no concern to me. Also it's not permitted in my job, so it wouldn't even be an option. My pain doc wouldn't like it, so that's another reason not to use it, as I value the relationship I have with that doctor.
