Been on an progressively strict NSD for 6 weeks and off sugar and dairy for at least a month now. Initially symptoms appeared they were worsening, though I recall that they were likely just starting to worsen before any diet changes. So the increase in pain may just be a coincidence.
3 Day Apple Fast did not seem to make a substantial difference.
Last week or so, my pain has been fluctuating (3/10 - 7/10), so that leads me to believe that I may possibly be reacting to my lack of being 100% strict with my diet, or that there is some gut activity that intermittently flares me (perhaps some healing pains??).

Either way, just watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, as many of you have done, and my wife and I were both inspired to give a juice fast a shot. She has vitiligo (an auto-immune skin condition) and recent hypothyroidism.

Did my research, found the juicer right for us, and went on Amazon and picked up an Omega. Looking forward to the delivery on Monday and super-pumped to start.

I've seen suggestions from many of you (especially Bettyrawker) about possible combinations of greens and/or fruits you use. What I've had a harder time finding were the exact proportions in which you mix your items? I'd like to avoid too much trial and error and start this off right!

Can some of you suggest more specific recipes including proportions for your juices to make them palatable? Both no sugar (for me) and with fruit (for my darling wife)?

I'm truly excited to start this juice fast, and I look forward to the challenge of seeing how many days I can manage it (without significant fatigue or adverse side effects).

Thanks!!

So glad you watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. Such an inspiration!

I put up this list of juices and smoothie recipes recently, but overall I usually just wing it:

Wish you all the best on your juicing adventure!!

Juicing seems to help some people, but as you allude to, with fruit is also means a large sugar intake. Like you, I am sensitive to this. My maximum is 1/2 grapefruit per day, before my fingers start hurting. If you exclude fruit, you will have minimal energy. I tried a lot of different variants of juicing and it mostly made me feel worse. The problem is that it depletes you of energy and it taxes you liver substantially. If you do not consume any fat, then watch out for gallstones. They form when your gallbladder finds no reason to release bile.

Try it out, but if you are like me, you may want to consider a nutrient dense diet, which seems to be the long-term solution for me. This means at least 80% of calories from fat, and limited intake of protein and carbs (I do 100 grams of vegetables and protein food per meal, three times per day). In this way, you do not need to overload your system as you get more energy while eating less. No sugar or starches needed. Best of all, it works long-term.

I hope you will find what works for you.
Best,
Loha

Hey Jojo,
Everyone's different ! My body just doesn't digest fat well and never has. If I eat too much fat I see oil slicks floating in the toilet (and smells awful). Crazy eh.. And because it isn't digested properly it actually becomes a huge energy drain on my body :-/

Wow, I have never heard of any one suffering from gallstones as a result from juicing? I will have to read up on that?!

And I have to agree, our bodies are all so different! I know I don't do well on a high fat diet loaded with animal protein and fat. I seem to do much better on a diet high in plant based foods, along with plant based fats (coconut, nuts) and meat and seafood only sparingly. I just feel really icky if I eat a high fat meal.

But I do read all about many with a wide range of health problems who are finding relief on a keto high fat diet. Its also supposed to be a great way to loose weight quickly for many. So I don't doubt at all that it works well for some!!

Andrea,
You say "icky" with eating high-fat.
Do you mean it flares your AS symptoms or your GI symptoms?

I just mean icky, as is my body feels icky. And it sits in my gut like a load of fat too. I just feel more light and energetic on a more plant based diet with fresh and raw foods.

I don't digest large amounts of fat and protein well, and I am totally okay with that!

Yeh I've heard of it being possible in theory but never heard of an actual instance. I think, if it does happen, then the larger issue will be changing too suddenly to a low fat diet and the body not getting enough time to manage the transition.

The Cayce Apple Fast instructs us to drink olive oil after 3 days of fruit and water. Supposedly protocols like this help to soften existing stones. The olive oil taken at the end of the 'fast' will cause the gallbladder to constrict hard and clear it out.

Personally, yoghurt seems to really mess with my gallbladder - I get pains and this feeling of congestion in the area of the gallbladder when I eat it regularly over a number of days.

Gallstones: The apples may helps soften them, but the fat triggers the bile to pur out of the bladder to digest the fat, so that may rinse some stones out. However, if you do a gallbladder flush, you drink at least 1/2 cup olive oil and you want to make sure to take epsom salt to relax the bile duct so that nothing gets stuck on its way out. I have gotten rid of a few cholesterole stones this way.

If you feel you cannot digest fat, it may be that your gallbladder is not working properly, or that your kidney is not producing enough bile.

I have become increasingly convinced that we humans are supposed to be able to digest animal fat - that is how we lived before and how traditional cultures live today. You deprive yourself of a lot of essential nutrient by avoiding animal fats.
