Hi

Has something gone wrong with our inboxes? Most of my private message threads have been split into separate messages and now I have suddenly gone WAY over my inbox quota by 82 messages (382 messages out of a max of 300). I have been trying to delete stuff but it is taking a long time and much of the old threads seem interesting so its not easy and is taking a while..

This means that no one has been able to message me for a month or two :,(
Could you please increase my private mailbox quota so that I can receive messages again?

Z

Hi Zark. I am very hesitant to add more to the site because they will just fill up again. What I suggest is emailing the threads you find interesting to your email client and create a folder called UBB Private Messages. Then you can delete those to create more room. 300 PMs is *a lot* of PMS to keep.

Obviously I didn't have 380 messages at the start of May as I was still receiving PMs then. That means I was still under the 300 message limit. And I have had only a very small number of messages in May. In fact only 4 short message threads for all of 2014. So it is impossible for me to have suddenly been 80+ messages over the limit!! Definitely something in the system got out of whack. I shouldn't be penalised when something in the system/database has clearly gone wrong.

Nobody has ever reported any issues with their private messages so I cannot increase the limit. If others have issues we'll try to figure out what is happening and then go from there. I still suggest purging your messages or emailing them to yourself to keep.

Can you please explain to me how, with only 4 short thread this entire year, my inbox has gone from under 300 to 380+ messages all within the month of May.

Something has gone wrong with my inbox. Just because other people haven't been impacted that is not proof that my account has not been damaged. Even a cursory examination of my inbox makes it patently obvious that my inbox has been damaged. Individual messages within threads prior to 2011 have been split into multiple separate threads thus bloating my inbox. This happened sometime in May this year.

I have just checked and the forum system definitely counts one thread as one message towards your quota - no matter how many messages are in the thread. So as I said, my inbox has been damaged and this is what caused my inbox to go over quota. I shouldn't be penalised for an error in the forum database.

I have been going through old messages and deleting them but it is taking a lot of time. I'm now at about 372 message threads.

I've submitted your issues with the software developer to see if there's any information. Might have to get more detailed information from you. " I shouldn't be penalised for an error in the forum database." How are you being penalized?

Zark. Please send some screen prints of where you are having trouble and I'll pass them on to kickas(at)gmaildotcom.

Hi Tim,
Penalised, for want of a better word, in that I can't receive PMs. It isn't the end of the world.. I have updated my signature so if anyone really really wants to contact me they can figure it out.

Here is a picture showing how one thread has been split into 5 separate threads, thus bloating my inbox:

I have sent the above emage to the kickas email address you mentioned. This type of error would most likely be the result of a forum update gone wrong I would say.

Still no solution?

I had a look at some old PM threads and not only has the database (presumably due to an errant upgrade) split my threads up into separate messages, but it has also duplicated many of these thread fragments.

This means that a thread of 10 messages would be split up into 10 threads, and then duplicated. So where the thread should be counting as 1 towards my quota, instead it would count as 10 to 20.

This is not my fault. Please fix my inbox. There is a simple, quick, and non destructive solution.. So why no use it. Is the system unable to modify quota limits on a per user basis?
