What do you do to try to lessen the pain from enthesis or to prevent it from getting worse? I am starting to experience these type pains, very frustrating

A Medrol dose pack of steroids always brings the enthesitis attacks in check. I also use cannabis cream and that helps.

The thing that has helped my enthesitis the very most is LDN (low dose naltrexone). Prior to taking it (sept 2009), I tore a lot of tendons and ligaments, had a lot of tendonitis that was so bad it had to be treated with lots and lots of PT. Not since sept 2009.

Prior to that it was:

lots of ice

contrast ice and heat

ultrasound (first at PT, then got a home machine)

resting the tendon (which is often difficult to do)

avoiding repetitive motions (which can be difficult to do)

The LDN didn't help my other spondy symptoms (enough), so then I tried using methylprednisone for flares (methylpred helps everything for me, but not so great long term), so then went on Humira, which I'm still on, and have only needed methylpred once since I started Humira back in June.

But for the enthesitis alone, LDN, hands down number one thing to help.

Spondyloarthropathy, HLAB27 negative
Humira (still methylprednisone for flares, just not as often. Aleve if needed, rarely.)
LDN/zanaflex/flector patches over SI/ice
vits C, D. probiotics. hyaluronic acid. CoQ, Mg, Ca, K.
chiro
walk, bike
no dairy (casein sensitivity), limited eggs, limited yeast (bread)

Ive been on a couple of rounds of methylpred, before, but I didnt really have problems with my knees, ankles and wrist at that time. It didnt help my back at all. I did take something called Rheumafan plus. It work great, it was supposed to be an all natural supplement from mexico. It wasnt all natural, and the FDA banned it. It worked good.

I have a couple of wrist braces that I use if I have to. Also got a knee strap to use with patellar tendonitis, which helped that time. I rub Voltaren Gel on the tendons, too. Ice hurts me, usually. Heat helps a little, but not as much as rest. Hands are hard to rest, hence the splints, but only for night. I wore one on right wrist for a couple of weeks, but my fingers were free--just to keep the wrist straight and rested a bit. It did help a bit.

Do try the braces, they can really help a lot of people, but be cautious:

Braces always make my enthesitis a lot lot worse. A lot worse.

Early on, I tried to be a good patient and tried to stay in the brace per doctors orders, after a few weeks, when he saw me again, the little bit of tendonitis in my wrist was so bad, I needed a cortisone shot and months of PT.

That's true for me anytime I try to brace anything.

But others, like Rumble find braces helpful.

I thought naltrexone was to help with alcoholism and getting off opioids? Is it used for enthesis pain as Very_addicted to.......... says?

At 10 times the dosage, you are correct.

At 1/10th the amount, ~3-4.5 mg, it is used to affect the immune system, in a positive way: MS, cancer, autoimmune, auto inflammatory disease.

look up low dose naltrexone or LDN and read all about it.

Clinical studies strongest on MS, but also some clinical study success with crohn's etc.

I used to get what I thought was enthesitis: pain in the knuckles of me hand, around the balls of my feet I think, and some ligament attachment area around the knee.. heel pain too, and iritis also seemed to be linked. I was using Rutin at the time to treat it and that worked for me (a plant antioxidant, not to be used while pregnant). Later after I went completely no starch the problem went away and I can't recall it ever returning since.
