Hello fellow NSDers !!
I was watching "The Food hospital", a C4 show about, yeah you guessed it, treating medical conditions with food... and I heard the words "Ankylosing Spondilitys" and guess what... Yes they did prescribe a NSD (well LSD really as patient is still allowed small amounts of beans & legumes).
That's the link if you want to watch it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxSMjfQuaIY&feature=youtube_gdata_player . The bit about AS starts at about 11 minutes. I think it's good that's it's starting to get the back up of some doctors and to be presented to the general public (although be prepared to hear the word "controversial" a lot...).
If you like this show you can find all the episodes on youtube, i know they were some about Chron's and IBS as well. I found them very interesting and reinforcing the idea that food should be our medicine !!

Thanks for sharing. Just finished watching it. I just wish the diet were easier. Why can't I have a medical condition that requires me to eat cinnamon rolls for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

That is great! I have a lot of friends who are very TV-oriented. If I sent them a link to NSD, gave them a book or even talked about it at length they'd zone out - but watch it for 5 minutes on TV and I guarantee not only will they watch it but they will suddenly see legitimacy in the diet.

Hum yeah, the old cinnamon roll diet... That would be quite nice...
Oh well, NSD isn't so bad when you get used to it and if you like cooking you can make so many nice things !!
And Didier I agree, TV seems to be such a validation for a lot of ppl : "I've seen it on TV so it's got to be true" !!

I'm reluctant to try much of anything at this point, other than fruits, veggies, and meat. I had a mild flare eating walnuts a few weeks ago (I'll try them again sometime soon, just to see if I do any better). Also had a very mild flare with chia seeds (although I'm still up in arms over whether it was those and might have to try them again as a test). I had a bad flare a week ago on purpose though, just to test the validity of the diet (I ate a burger and fries from McDonalds). I had a bad flare and some intense stomach achesyesterday because I ate zucchini pizza (just mozzarella, ham, and pineapple on top of zucchini rounds dipped in pizza sauce). The mozzarella must have done it, which was very disappointing as I was just starting to think my diet would allow dairy. Is mozzarella bad? I've done okay with small amounts of cheddar and plain greek yogurt (I even ate some homemade cheesecake for my son's birthday that didn't upset my stomach or flare me up, didn't eat the crust though).

Thank you so much for sharing! I feel like I am watching me up on TV, as I have most of the same fusions, limited motion. And about the same age!!

I shared this with friends & family. Again, really appreciate the link!

Thanks so much!

I'm now a KICK AS (and Kick IBD) success story!! After going low starch Paleo to heal my gut, I can now eat nearly all starches, grains & foods without inflammation, flare-ups, or pain. I used a modified SCD diet approach (minus dairy! plus cacao ♥). Cheers to healing & thriving again! I blog at http://www.forestandfauna.com/about/
