Hi Guys,

I woke up this morning and put my foot to the floor and my foot is very painful to put weight on it. It is now throbbing even being off of it. I did not hurt my foot and there is no redness or swelling. Any ideas. what this is ?

Thanks
Janet

Janet,
I thought I had planters wart on both feet..
my GP told me that the joints in my toes were hot and swollen.

I use heel pads now in every shoe / boot and that does help. I can not bare foot or wear sandals.. but the pain is less.

good luck my friend...less pain...
your friend,
Lon

Where does it hurt?

When my plantar fasciitis was bad, it caused the overuse of the tendon/ligament over the top of the foot. Strained that tendon / ligament, can't remember its name. Could not put any weight on it at all! Ice and lots of ice and being off it for a few days and it was back to "normal". I've had the same thing happen on the side of my foot. Same solution.

Also the heel pain will take me down like a horse with a broken leg.

In all cases: no redness, no swelling, no outward visible sign.

That's the beauty of enthesitis. No one can really see inflamed tendons and ligaments.

Iv had plantar facilities for around 4 months, had an injection and it didn't help at all. Now the side of my foot is slightly red and swollen, hot to touch and really painful. Im getting orthotics made up as I have flat feet so hopefully that will help a bit.

Hi Janet,

Not sure if this is relevant but my Dad has had very bad feet for many years. They give him a great deal of pain on a daily basis. He carries the Hla-b27 gene so no doubt it is related to AS or some other form of arthritis. However he is 60 and lives a perfectly normal life and is still very healthy and active. He is out fishing and playing golf most of the time where he is on his feet a lot.

Maybe the foot pain is related to your AS? Hopefully it is just a phase that passes.

I have a lot of foot pain from RA/AS; different at different times. Sometimes it is the toe joints, Sometimes it the plantar facisitis and sometimes just feels like the muscles are so spasmed that I can't put my foot flat on the ground. The podiatrist made inserts for me that help.....sometimes.

I have had steroid injections in the past.

I am sorry. When your feet hurt, you hurt all over. Well maybe that is RA/AS too. :))

Enthesitis is painful. If it's the plantar fascia, even more so. If you have some Voltaren gel (or a Canadian equivalent), rub that all over your foot. Let it 'dry', then put on a warm sock. Wrap it in a heating pad if you have one. Maybe that would help. I've got a knot under the 5th metatarsal base (bottom of foot) that has been bothering me a lot in past few days. Nothing shows on surface, but I feel like there's a rock in my shoe, no matter which shoe I wear. Foot pain is such torture when you absolutely have to move about....or work on your feet. Hugs.

Hi, Janet:

Certainly it is plantar fasciitis; it can be pure torture. There are options, but it took me a long time to figure this out! Best of luck with it,

John

I've had foot pain for as long as I can remember. Up until a few years ago I thought it was normal and that it happened to everyone! I never knew what it was until just recently when I found out about my AS. I'm hoping I can also get some sort of relief as some days it is so bad I really struggle to walk at all.
The only thing that helps me at the moment is to rest and elevate my feet. It's minimal relief but it's something!
Hope you get some relief soon.

Thanks for all your replies. I have been using the Voltaren and the heating pad wrapped around my foot. That seems to be helping. I may of got it going , running o the spot in the pool.

Janet
