Hi,
I logged on to write a similar post but here i saw one already created!!
I am homeridden since past 4 months. I can't walk more than 50 mtrs at a stretch, beyond that i experience shooting pain in my hips and my legs don't move at all. It gets a bit better if i find a place to sit. My rheumy says that its due to my posture, which is putting unneccesary pressure on nerves. He tells me that strengthening of muscles is the only option. And i should take few shots of biologics.
But, i dont agree with him since this pain increases on walking, which is typical of mechanical pain rather than inflamatory pain. I plan to consult an orthopaedic doctor this week.
I would also like to ask the same question as jay..is there anybody else??

When my SI joint is already inflamed, the muscle spasms kick in, and then if bad enough, I can't walk due to the kind of pain you describe. So, no, it doesn't indicate mechanical pain at all. If I reduce the inflammation (ice, NSAIDs, steroids (oral or a shot), or now biologic) that is the only thing that relieves it. Thus inflammatory.

And while your doctor is correct that exercises to strengthen the muscles can help and should be done, no, it is not just "posture pressing on nerves". Fix my inflammation and immediately things improve right away.

Thanks for your reply Sue.
I am diagnosed with Avascular Nephrosis (AVN) of both hips, meaning i would have to undergo total hip replacement at some point in my life.
I will try alternate treatments before surrendering for the surgery. Tough times ahead...

Thank you everyone for the "welcome backs". :o)

Alphabeta I am sorry for your problems. In my family, those who have had joint replacements say the hip replacements are much easier than the knees. Just a little encouragement. :o) I don't blame you for putting it off as long as possible.

Blessings.

This is extremely late but thank you to all that replied. I am going through some health issues.

Kind Regards,
Jay

Have you tried a strict low starch diet.

Also I once had my l5 s4 disc space shrink to nothing. I could hardly walk. I started using an inversion table a couple of times per day and this fixed the problem. I did this alongside chiropractic treatment. Before I worked this out I spent 12 months going to different doctors who offered no solutions. Sometimes you have to search for answers. Don't discount simple things like diet, the right kind of exercise or seeking different practitioners.
