If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I have had Hypertension treated by a dr. since I was 29. I have no idea if it is AS related. Just be sure and have it followed by your dr. and treated. Untreated Hypertension is not good. :o)

Hi Coldbreeze!
I can't comment on the beetroot as I have no experience with that but wanted to provide you with a references about hypertension and AS.
I have had the hypertension usually at times when the pain is elevated. It has ticked up a little in the past year but so has some of the progression of the disease. I hope this helps.http://www.ehealthme.com/cs/ankylosing+spondylitis/hypertension

According to the study from the link above, only 2% of AS sufferers had hypertension. According to the CDC ( http://www.cdc.gov/bloodpressure/facts.htm), about 33% of all people have hypertension, which makes it seem that AS people are somehow much more heart healthy. That makes me question the study. Hypertension is a big problem, with or without AS. Personally, I don't have any problems with hypertension, even after 22 years of AS. How are you on some of the major causes of hypertension: weight, smoking, fitness, etc.? --Greg
AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

The blood pressure ratings arre way out of date. New research suggests that 140/90 is a 'norm' BP for anyone over 60 and slightly lower for younger people (forget the nos for the youngsters). Much info available on line. NICE (UK) have upped their recommendations, numbers. Much research was done in Leicester Hospital and Imperial College, London.

MIne only runs a little elevated some of the time.
My doctors think that maybe it is the pain that does it.
Pain can make BP raise.
As for how to treat it, I'll let others address it. I just try to exercise, eat a well balanced diet not too high in salt, but mine isn't as high as yours. If it were, not sure how I'd work on it.
Right now I'm trying to lose weight, that will probably help it.

Beetroot is excellent treatment for hypertension. Best to eat raw, grated. You can google up the information. (I hate the stuff).
Yes, your diastolic is a bit high, OK if got glaucoma, but otherwise could do with coming down a bit. Various diets and exercise recommendations and supplements etc one can take. lots of info out there, including snake oil !
I get pretty bad intermittent hypertension - 225/125 to 187/105 then it has taken to bottoming out at hypo levels: 137/67 to 130/65. Unfortunately the lower numbers are not good for no tension glaucoma, does not help the retina. All such a blasted bind.
