Mine is coming from the bursa, I think
They put steroids in there and really helped for six weeks.

Hi
I was told that hip joint pain gives you groin pain. I don't get that, mine is in the bursa at this point.

Hi Yiannis,

*true* hip joint pain is felt at the front in the groin and often down the inside /front of the leg to the knee.

What Janet (and I) had is this:

One of the *hallmark* areas of inflammation for many of us ASers is the sacro-iliac joint at the back of the pelvis. You feel the pain here:

Hope this helps!

Cool pic's.

As for an answetr to the question. When my hips were mine. AS pain was in all the areas discussed or displayed. It radiated and sometime it was difficult to tell where it generated from.

When mine got really bad, it radiated from the groin area, both front and back. My hip socket was almost completely gone when they finally took me seriously.

I had pain that was very localized because of a torn labral. So, the pain was not radiating from somewhere else and was in fact coming from the joint itself. When doctors ask me to identify the area of pain, I always pointed right through the middle of my thigh, straight down where the joint would have been.

I also had groin pain as well. I was told by another doctor (before I ever had the right diagnoses and well before I ever heard the word Ankylosing Spondylitis) that pain to the outside of the joint/leg is likely bursitis or tendonosis and though connected to the joint is not the joint itself.

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking, but hope that helps.

Great pictures Louise! Shows the difference really clearly, though sometimes it is hard to figure out exactly where the pain really is coming from.
