I need sleep, have been on steroids for way too long, and not having a good response on them this go around. What's a person to do without sleep , plus pain is harder to tolerate when a body doesn't rest. Ugg, three cycles back to back.

Steroids always mess up my sleep, often lucky to get 2 hours of sleep per day. I had to resort to Ambien to get some sleep.

AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

Hi

Have you tried a little AMitriptyline, or trazodone ? I don't think anybody sleeps when on steroids.

Good Luck.

There is also Melatonin, which I can't take but many swear by it.

Jan,
I have stayed off of the site for about a week.... yes, because I went without sleep, and got the steroid rages. I was such a freaking mess ! I was crying all the time, and I mean, like chick crying , just everything felt wrong, I now know what the term ,
"racing thoughts ," truly means , I quite think that all steroids should be given with tranquilizers too. I thought I had just been on them for about three or four weeks, my mistake, it's been sense about a week before the Thanksgiving Holidays. So the first time in my life I am having severe withdraw symptoms, I thought you got those from having fun in your 20s, not from steroids ! smile I try to find humor everyday .

So sorry BeckyJ. I also get the racing thoughts, sleepnessness and "steroid rages" (what a good description!) when I'm on prednisone, normally for asthma. My doctor didn't believe me until I went to see him after 7 days at 40mg per day of prednisone, but now he gets it lol!
