If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I'm not a huge believer in the alkaline/acidity stuff. That said I have tried to eat mostly alkaline foods. Dairy, however, is acidic, only very mildly though. I think if you start going down that path, avoiding foods with even mild acidity, with this already restrictive diet, you're just setting yourself up for failure because there will be literally nothing to eat.
Violeta, can I ask you how long it took on the diet for you to notice a result? From what I've heard from most people who have had positive results, they've felt the result within a month or so of starting the diet.

Well, actually I can't say that when I talk about acid/alkaline that I mean avoid what are called acidic foods. The normal info out there does say that's what it's all about, but I don't believe that. But that's a long story.
As far as the NSD working for me, it didn't take me very long to find out that it wasn't going to work for me. I came here specifically to find out more about it and tried it for awhile. It didn't take long for me to run into trouble. I tried to do it without going too low in carbs because when I tried low carb diets before I ended up in big trouble, but I just couldn't do it. Too many of the no starch fruit and vegetables(goitrogens, high oxalates, even carrots bother me now) cause problems. Purines from red meat, chicken, and fish cause uric acid build up in my body and may actually be the root cause of everything. I go for a long time without them, using dairy as my protein source, and then when I come back to them I can get away with eating them for longer periods of time, but the uric acid still builds up and I get serious problems again. That's where I am right now, and I don't know what to eat. I suppose I should keep my mouth shut because it's not as if I have a diet that works for me.

Hello Mike,
Sorry to hear not responding to diet.. from your list here are my quick comments.
Italian dressing, especially if store bought is a problem for me, a lot of fillers in it.
Also... yogurt and milk can be problematic for many.

Haha, Violeta, at least we're not alone in our struggles. I've been avoiding fish and red meat altogether--aside from the canned tuna. I usually eat lean meats; chicken breast, pork, turkey.
I'm probably gonna give the diet at least till the end of the month to show me its doing something. I'm going low fat now and taking minocycline per the recommendation of Dr Stephen Fry and his protozoa theory. I saw my rheumy today who's wanted to start me on Remicade for over a month now. I told him I wanted to give the diet at least a month, and if I don't improve than he can put on the Remicade.
The italian dressing is a dressing I got from whole foods which I thoroughly checked. The ingredients are all good and when I use it on salads, I use it extremely sparingly because I am trying to go low fat.

Low fat, low carb, and not excessive protein. Are you losing a lot of weight?

Since July I've gone from 163 to 148. I still get plenty of protien. I just get it from low fat sources. I only really started eating carrots a couple weeks ago. Sort of had the opiphany of baby carrots as a snack because they're no fat and very low starch. It pained me to hear Molly say carrots cause problems, because they're one of the few snack foods I can theoretically still eat. I am always looking for ideas on new things to eat tho. Its just hard because I'm pretty busy so I can't cook every day.

Hi Mike,
First off, just know I really only want to try and help! So I am gonna bring up some other ideas... but I totally understand if you feel this diet just isn't doing it, and I don't want to see anyone live a life full of pain. Pain sucks!
I just wanted to ask if there is a specific reason you are going low fat? I get a lot of energy out of plant based fats: avocado, coconut oil, cacao butter, virgin olive oil, soaked nuts & seeds, etc. I feel great with these fats though!
I will also stick my neck out there and say I am a total believer in eating foods on the more alkaline side, plant based, than acid & animal product based, I have felt the great effects from eating more greens, and plant based foods (soaked nuts & seeds, veggies, fruits, sprouts, seaweed, coconut). Plant based foods, greens especially, vitalize our cells, and provide oxygen to our cells, and lead the way to revitalizing our bodies. I would continue to explore your options for greens, even if some hurt your stomach, have you tried blending spinach into a fresh fruit smoothie? The spinach is tasteless when added, and you get the benefit of the spinach being in a predigested pureed state, so your body and soak up all the goodness!
A couple years ago I did the SCDiet, which was very low starch, grain free, but a mostly animal product based diet (or at least the books and forums for that diet really push bone broths, homemade yogurt, meat at every meal etc), and I still experienced joint aches, stiff joints, and it was getting to the point where I could barely handle being in the car for more than 30 minutes do to shooting leg pains and crawling feelings in my knees. (those days are now over, thank goodness!)
Fast forward a few years, and I am so heavily reliant on fresh plant based foods, and finally feeling real healing going on. I am now completely "Addicted to Veggies!". Totally addicted because they make me feel so much better.
I know you don't have much time to cook, and I completely understand, I also work too much too right now. I often drink "green" smoothies in the morning:
My current go-to drink: a few tablespoons sesame seeds (loads of calcium, protein, minerals) 1 handful spinach 1 tablespoon raw cacao (magnesium) 2 medjool dates (carbs, potassium) 1 + 1/2 cups water Blend, and enjoy! Like an instant chocolaty "milk". I usually add in a few ice cubes and blend again at the end. This recipe works great in a high speed blender, like a vitamix.
I also make a lot of different curries. Thai coconut curry, Indian veggie style curry, Tom Kha coconut soup, sautéed kale/garlic/mushrooms, salads w/ guacamole & fresh cilantro. I just add in zucchini, bell peppers, carrots, kale, garlic, onions, chard, etc to all the different dishes. I try to make a large batch at dinner, than take the leftovers to work the next day for work.

I'm now a KICK AS (and Kick IBD) success story!! After going low starch Paleo to heal my gut, I can now eat nearly all starches, grains & foods without inflammation, flare-ups, or pain. I used a modified SCD diet approach (minus dairy! plus cacao ♥). Cheers to healing & thriving again! I blog at http://www.forestandfauna.com/about/

Hey Andrea, You know, subconsciously, I think part of the reason I posted this was to look for some motivation. With how I feel right now, my motivation is definitely wearing thin. I'm at the point where I feel like I've tried really hard to make things work, and I just want to feel better already. I'm going low fat because of this http://betterhealthguy.com/joomla/blog/243-dr-stephen-fry-on-fl1953 . My lyme doc apparently found this protozoa in my blood. This protozoa is a pretty new idea, so I'm not that confident the low fat diet will help me. But my lyme doc wanted me to give it a try. I'm also on minocycline for it and I'm flying out to Arizona to see Dr. Fry a the end of the month. The spinach is a great idea. I'll definitely give that a go. Most of my diet actually already is mostly plant based. I just have a little bit of meat here and there during the day for extra protien. Thanks for the drink idea. And the curry is a good idea too.

Hey Mike, I want to share with you one more reason for me to get up everyday, to make this curry! I speak from a place of suffering from colitis and IBS for YEARS, I have the most senstive gut there ever was, and I can no longer tolerate soy, perservatives, white sugar, grains, starches... blah, blah, BUT I can totally tolerate this curry paste wonderfully! And it's made by a little company here in Oregon (with fast shipping to anywhere) so I highly recommend it. Just take 1 tablespoon of this curry paste, add to one can cocoonut milk, add in chopped veggies/greens (zucchini, bell peppers, kale, basil, etc) heat, and wha-la! I make this all the time at work & share. One co-worker asked me if I put crack in it becuase it is so good. http://www.foodfightgrocery.com/thai-and-true-curry-pastes/I live out in the country, so I ordered it online from the link above, I placed my order at 3pm on a Tuesday, and had it waiting for me the next morning on a Wednesday in the PO Box. Talk about fast shipping To really kick it up to crack addicting status, I add in 1 tablespoon maple syrup and 1 tablespoon coconut aminos (which is a coconut based "soy" sauce w/o the soy). I am hooked on the red curry and green curry, but they are all magnficient. I can no longer tolerate any other curry pastes I used to buy at the Asian market, becuase they are too laden with perservatives, but not this brand. I also think the anti-inflammatory properties of all the natural spices in these pastes outweighs any suffering one might get from any possible starch in these, but that is just my own opinion based on my own personal experiences. And here is the actual homepage for the curry company: http://www.thaiandtrue.com/xoxo

Awesome, thanks for that Andrea. And your definitely right about the spices. I know things like tumeric definitely help with my pain.
When I got home tonight I tested my lactaid milk. It tested fine, so it seems safe. I was also curious about the carrots though. So I retested some. First some baby carrots and then some canned sliced carrots. The results made me very sad. It looks like I was wrong about the carrots. And it confuses me because carrots are supposed to have almost no starch in them. Do most people have problems with carrots? Anyway, I have a whole bunch of extra carrots in the fridge now.
