Hi all, this place could become very useful to me and so thanks to everyone for spending their time on here.
I have been diagnosed with AS for about six years (suspect I've had it for 10 though), I am 37 and have been injecting Humira (Anti TNF) for the past three years.
The past few weeks though I have experienced severe chest pains (not ribs) that last for about 5 seconds and leave me unable to breath in nor out. It's becoming quite a concern as I know there is history of heart problems in the family, but is this something that is merely yet another sympton of AS?

You may want to provide more info: Is the pain around your sternum? Upper or lower? Is it sensitive to pressure? Front of chest or back? Do you take any NSAIDs? etc...
AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

Welcome to the message boards.
Chest pains aren't something to mess around with, especially if you have a family history of heart problems or this is something new or different from before. I'd be making a doctors appointment fairly quickly if I had that happening. It might be nothing, but you aren't going to be able to tell unless you have been checked out properly.

Welcome! I would get the chest pain checked out soon. It might be just AS pain but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I had something similar and it was due to some spinal misalignment, especially around C4. A competent chiropractor or osteopath can correct this. You PROBABLY have not had AS long enough to be damaged by such manipulation, but certainly tell them of Your status, even provide a DEXA or other bone density scan prior to such a procedure.
Regret I required many repeat treatments, but they worked well each time, the process affecting my breathing for nearly a minute, as I 'latched up,' but time between treatments increased until I no longer required them.

It is around my sturnum (upper to middle)at the front of the chest and is sensitive to pressure. However, the severe pain that last for about five seconds seems to totally restrict my entire upper chest.
