Seb,

Are you, family and friends that you have all ok?

This is a horrible tragedy and I know alot of people are going to be affected by this..I guess all we can do right now is pray that there will be as little loss of life as there can be.

We have friends that came from New Zealand and they still have alot of family there.

Trying to keep up with the updates, will keep you and everything there in my thoughts and prayers during this tragic time.

If you hear anything else please let us know also.

Hugs,

Lisa

As a Californian, I know how scary earthquakes can be. The after quakes can go on for a long time and can cause a lot more damage. After the big quake in the Bay Area about 20 years ago, many people camped out on their front yards because they were afraid to sleep in the house. We saw a lot of tents in people's yards.

I hope that as time goes on, that everyone who is missing is accounted for and that the death count does not rise.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble down there!
My son's girlfriend got out of there Monday! She and her best friend had been traveling around New Zeland for 16 days and had caught the bus to the airport from across the street from the cathedral. They are both very bummed.
It really hit close for them as they have a friend who lives down there who is ok.
Good luck to all dealing with this tragedy!

This is really scary. I have a really good friend and her family in Christchurch and I know I'm not going to hear for ages where or what has happened with them. Last I heard 75 dead, many more have had emergency amputations to get them out quick, and up to 300 missing. Its not just one shock either - its continuing with loads more force 3 and 4 and very close to the surface stuff, so the already weakened buildings are just going to keep on coming down. I know most people still hadn't recovered from the last lot - its going to psychologically destroy huge numbers of people. I really don't know if anyone is going to want to live there ever again.

Yes I wondered the same thing - whether they need to move the city - and I'm being serious.

I lived in Wellington NZ for four months in 1990 - at the bottom of the North Island, and during that time we had 4 earthquakes - it was the reason I came back to Australia!

I visited Christchurch for just one weekend, and yes, while I was there, there was a level 4 earthquake!

Earthquakes scare me! I hate the low rumble, and the feeling of helplessness as the ground does its own thing.

We can only hope that the 300 missing reduces down greatly to a lot more found. Fingers crossed.

After the devastating flooding in Queensland, the bushfires in Perth, flooding in Melbourne and Carnarvon and now the earthquake in Christchurch (again), its starting to feel like the prequel to "2012".

seb...we haven't heard from you in awhile now, are you okay? I physically could not make the trip, my 2 year old German Shepherd, Beaux is already there, he's a FEMA registered Search, Rescue & Recovery Dog and I let him go with a group of certified FEMA handlers, he's black & tan, a big imposing boy, but very affectionate, his pic is below...I put a Louisiana flag bandana around his neck, in the hopes that you may recognize him, he's in ChristChurch, if you see him, take the bandana, it's for you, the team knows the story...hugss
