Molly, I'll look in the horseys. So do you use Western tack? So sorry I had that confused! Unforgivable horsewoman faux-pas! Tapaderos, huh? Don't think there're any reins charms, but I can find a Western saddle for sure. Do you like hackamores? I'm a big bosal hackamore fan (probably because my parents tried to put me in headgear as a child, I despise having stuff in my mouth so I don't put stuff in my horse's mouth either. Just a quirk with me. Lol.) I love how artistic and beautiful the bosals can be, also.

Hi Bridget, I'm a hackamore bit person myself and for the same reasons as you, besides, the horses can get pretty testy if a bit makes an already aggravated mouth sore/ulcer is agitated, it's very painful and I've seen them buck and rare and one even went completely over on her rider during a barrel racing competition...I know what you mean about a whole new level of auto-immune...I was having frequent bouts with pyleonephritis, at least four times a year, sometimes more but this last week, I went into the hospital with the same symptoms but I was diagnosed with Urosepsis...it was only a little over 24 hours after the symptoms began that I had full blown Urosepsis...scary...just hang in there Bridget, you have a beautiful family and please give Bailey hugs & kisses from YaYa Michelle...xxooxx

Bridget B - Hackamore or Bosal - Bosal is the PP non-bit, used in training. A PP horse is trained 'for' the bit. Starts with single rein, Bosal, then after about a year into two reins, then finally, is 'finished in the bit' but that is the fnal, when about 5yrs old, or even 6yrs old. We never push a horse to 'be trained' we go at the horse's pace, and also with huge respect for Dr Deb Bennett's work: 'Maturity in Hores'.

So, Bosal is terrific, and, romal reins. I love my romal reins. And yes, those Bosals can be items of real beauty - and the Peruvian versions are of extreme beauty and superb workmanship. I have one set in my tack, but it is a working Bosal, somewhat coarser than the show style bosal. It's heavy to use as well, has heavy rawhide romal reins (better for a chalan's hands!)

My fave saddle is my Orthoflex, the classic/original Orthoflex. Soooooo comfortable, and very safe. Then my Peruvian saddle. It's a Don West, his original dual purpose, trail/show saddle. Very comfortable, though a tad on the large size. But love that saddle as well, and, it is a real safe saddle.

Dunno 'when' I'll ever use any of my tack again, but, ya never know!

Heigh, Michelle - so y're a hackamore person as well as. Great. The Brit hackamore is very different to the American Hackamore - don't like the Brit one, as can be 'bad', fierce, in the wrong hands. My McCurdy TWH hated his bit. Came to me with a 'Walker' bit! Ha, took one look at that thing and relegated it to the back of the tack cupboard! Rode him in a Parelli rope halter! And, he's still being ridden in a rope halter by his new owner.

OK. Nuff of horses...
