If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

i use to get this in the "early days",when i was in my 20s...
everything would be fine and OK and THEN....something would happen that would make me think "oh,i have put my back out"
when this "back out" feeling came on i would be scared to move, rooted to the spot with fear because the slightest movement could bring on dreadful back spasms that would travel the length of the spine.this pain would cause me to cry out no matter where i was.
these spasms and the early morning (5:30) AS alarm calls "good morning sir, your stifness and pain has arrived" were the worst of times

yes, sounds like what happens to me.
i've been doing pretty well lately. then this morning, woke with an AM calf cramp, a bad one, and knew that did not bode well. then shortly after being up, shifted my weight a little, and felt that twinge you talk about. got lucky this time though. very little spasm of the lat (lower/mid back), much more in the buttocks. maybe cause those muscles aren't as strong as the lat, but the butt spasms don't make me scream in pain though way the back muscles do. whenever its less than the worst case scenario, i always feel like i got off with a pretty light sentence.....still frustrating, its only been about 2 weeks since my butt spasms settled from back in august/september. and now the SI joint is a lot sorer than it was. i warned my chiro just this past week as he was pleased how well "we got it settled down relatively quickly, i warned him, "just wait til it flares, glad we got it settled down, but i've been through this many times before." i so need an anti-inflammatory!
that "putting the back out" feeling, i do believe to be the back spasms. mine are generally lower and due to the SI, but sometimes up higher and due to the ribs.
you're right, not fun!

LDN/zanaflex/flector patches over SI/ice vits C, D. probiotics. hyaluronic acid. CoQ, Mg, Ca, K. chiro walk, bike no dairy (casein sensitivity), limited eggs, limited yeast (bread)

Yes this happens to me. For a few weeks last summer I was bedridden for a few weeks. The slightest movement would send the worst spasm up my back and into my stomach. I had a hard time doing ANYTHING! The pain is very sharp, almost like a pinched nerve or something but also tightens up all the muscles in the area, even taking my breath away for a few seconds. This comes and goes for me and it seems to happen after driving a truck down a bumpy road or after 4 wheeling. The compression on my spine from these activities seems to be the culprit.

Ooch, Saltire:
I only had this feeling for a short time, yeah like only one score years.
Money a weary morn I drug my banes from the crypt and wish'd I had continued sleeping but eventually I slept like I ambled about--protected and deciding which muscle to tense and which I better leave slack else the lightning bolt would strike.
I will have no problem at all shuffling off this mortal coil, HEALTH, John

Yes, spasms. Get it from my right SI and into buttock. Nasty. Comes out of nowhere, zip, like a hot knife twisting deep inside. Right nasty. Can bring it on by touching my toes...'trying' to touch my toes!
Just the AS monster. GGgggrrrrrrrrrr

Me too. It is scary, eh? Last time it happened to me, I had *stupidly* tried to stretch my back over the arm of the couch. That didn't work out so well... ER trip.

yep...I used to get them often. Hubby (the sweetheart) used to have to rub and rub, til they subsided, along with a heating pad. Horrible pain. I used to hate to go to bed, because I knew what I would wake to after a couple of hours. I haven't had them for ages now...(knocking on wood)
Hope you find relief soon.
Cheers, Steph

I get the stabbing pain in my right hip/SI. It usually happens when I just take a step on my right foot and then I am afraid to move because it feels like I'm coming apart. I feel terrified that the hip will dislocate, it feels like things are grinding in there. After a few minuets and a few more steps, with me holding onto something, I am better. This got better after I started Humira, but every once in a while it sneaks up on me.

Yes - Right on with that'un as well. Go to 'take a step' and whoomph! Stuck with this pain, one leg forward, one leg back and...stuck! Always makes me larf, cuase am standing there in this ridiculous stance and must look like a complete idiot <LOL>
So, what I do is, to rock back and forwards until I have my confidence, then (with somewhat bated breath) I *quickly swing the right leg forwards and heigh-presto, am 'unlocked'. But gotta larf!
Oh the spondy monster. GGGgrrrrrrrrrr

Spasms in my obliques/transvers abdominus (never was sure which it was as they both are connected to the side of the torso) are one of the things that led to my diagnosis. Used to wake me up screaming in pain as the spasm lifted me off the bed sometimes 5 times a night.
Nothing seemed to help. Ice. Nope. Heat. Nope. Robaxacet. Nope. Prescription muscle relaxants left me stupidly stoned well into the following day (bad when one has to be at work and coherently functioning) and didn't do much else. MJ, however, did ease them and left me able to walk a straight line in the morning.
I've never experienced anything like it before or since (thank god!!).
Hugs,
Kat
