Steph, if you know you can quit for that long, then you can do it. I, like you had quit for up to 4 yrs. at a time, but always went back. When I did quit for good it was by accident. I was going in for hip surgery in the spring of 97, and decided to just quit for a couple months, and go under the knife with my lungs clear, it was my easiest time knowing it was just temporary. Ever since, I just tell myself maybe tomorrow but not today. They still sound good, and smell good to me, but I really don't have any craving, but I know myself well enough, that if I had that first one, I would be back to a pack a day shortly. Good Luck
J.R.

Well good for you! I have a friend who keeps 1/2 a pack in her freezer. She hasn't had one in 12 years...same half pack in freezer from all those years ago. Made it easier for her to quit thnking she could go get one if she absolutely couldnt handle it. Whatever works eh?

Thanks smile

Cheers,

Steph

In view of the recognised influence of smoking on the disease course of psoriasis and ulcerative colitis, and the association of these diseases with seronegative spondyloarthritis, we investigated a possible effect on outcome in ankylosing spondylitis. Thirtyone non-smokers, 12 exsmokers, and 10 smokers, with definite ankylosing spondylitis of a median duration of 20 years, were studied using clinical values (modified Schober, finger floor distance, total spinal movement), radiological (lumbar spine x-ray score), functional index, and laboratory assessment (ESR, CRP, Igs). There were statistically significant differences in the outcome between smokers and non-smokers for finger floor distance (p < 0.01), Schober test (p < 0.01), total spinal movement (p < 0.001), occiput-wall distance (p < 0.01), functional index (p < 0.01), stiffness (p < 0.01), and spine x-ray scores (p < 0.02). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups with regard to disease duration or age at onset. We conclude that smoking is associated with poor long term outcome in patients with ankylosing spondylitis.

Do not smoke. As well as having a negative impact on your overall health, smoking is particularly risky for people with ankylosing spondylitis as it increases your risk of developing cardiovascular disease (conditions that affect the heart and blood flow, such as heart attacks).

Hang on in there and gather up all the will power you can muster! It's a tough job giving up the evil weed pimp
But, it looks like it's catching on - you are in the good company of Kevin already, and maybe Kat too!

Good luck to anyone giving up smoking! Well done and don't give up giving up! lol
