Hi there everybody,
Just wanted to share with you the latest on me on NSD. As I have said elsewhere the pain (the normal pain at least in my mid/upper back and rib-cage) has completely disappeared but it has been replaced by a very nagging pain in my left hip joint (SL joint) but ONLY in bed at night. I am still taking no drugs but am losing sleep as its impossible to get comfortable. My supplements at present are glucosamine and cod liver oil. I'm afraid sometimes I don't understand the three letter abbreviations (like MSM) or unusual sounding supplements that you guys talk about. What were you saying peppermint oil is good for??
Happy St. Patricks Day to you all
Ali

Ali,

disappearing pain in the rest of your body indicates reduced inflammation activity. very good sign.

The pain you get in return for that seems meachnical pain to me. I solve this with the mechical approach, and I mean exercise with this. e.g. maybe your SI joint has locked up somewhere, this influences the rest of you spine/hip and causes pain there. so if you manage to mobilise that SI joint, the pain might go away

With deep stretching I can get to almost every joint in my body, but you need to know sufficient alternative excesises. I you do not have this expertise, get help with this.

WHERE TO GET HELP:
I have found yoga teachers more effective then fysiotherapists, as the yoga teacher does all the exercises himself also: every day. So he knows better where he's talking about.

For specific joint problems, like you have, you could also visit a chiropractor, but make sure he also gives you excercises, or you get dependent of him/her. This should be safew as you inflammation activty has gone down ..

If supplements or abbreviations seem strange to you, also try a search on the web, then you build up your own expertise. I get most of my info from the WEB, sometimes through tips from here.

you are doing quite ok, if you can get rid of this hip problems ...

OK goodluck to you,
Arjan

My left hip can be uncomfortable in bed at night. With me its because due to the mechanical damage in the joint my leg doesn't lay out straight easily, only after doing exercises will it do so. You may have a similar sort of problem and I recommend a good physio if you haven't received instruction yet. That is for stretching, not laying on the bed. As for what the oil is for, I'll pass.

Have a good paddys day too!

Thanks Arjan and Bilko. I haven't been doing hardly any exercise since my minor op last week so that probably explains it. I am going to get back to it tomorrow.
Thanks guys, hope yee are both well

Hey Ali , I hate the not sleeping or the waking up and feeling like i haven't slept . One thing I have found that helps me get off to sleep is a cup of Chamomile tea at bed time . As for the hip pain , maybe a hot bath or shower at bedtime would help , I have used Biofreeze roll on pain relief it has Ilex ,menthol and camphor as ingredients . Hope you find something that helps . Talk Later.

Thanks Bruce, its got a bit better again. its amazing how it just came and was so bad and now its died down again. Did a bit of salsa dancing last night - and that always helps. How are you feeling these days? How's the diet? Are you being really strict - i.e. not even a banana?? Its hard isn't it - I guess you get used to it though. Hope your pain has gone away. Happy St. Pats Day

Aloha Ali, have you ever tried kava to help you sleep? I have often used it, especially when I used to work at the hotel and was on my feet for the evening shift of banquets, after going to bed my legs would cramp up and i'd be too wired to sleep, awa (Hawaiian for kava) would really help. Its basically a muscle relaxant and reduces anxiety and has been in use in the Pacific for hundreds of years. Nicole

Hey Ali , I think i would be feeling good if i had not fell out of a chair ( with wheels ) a week ago monday . My lower back and neck are sore from the fall . Tha diet is going good , no bananas for 19 days so far. As far as the diet being hard , well i have had to stare down some hot buttered yeast rolls and some pizza , but the thoughts of pain won out . It would be nice if you would fill in the blanks on your profile so I could learn more about one of my friends . I hope you are doing good , are you eating anything you should not ? TalK Later.

Hi Bruce, Glad to hear you're feeling fine. Am I eating anything I shouldn't - well that would be telling!! Not really I guess - try to stick to it though last Sunday I had a few crisps (potato chips for some) as I down a couple of pints of Guinness for Paddys Day. Could not resist - but only a few!!! I filled out the blanks - so now you know!
