Well..been quite a week..Ethan and the rest of us have been working hard with our fitness regimine so I can post on Ericas fitness thread. Monday night Bill wasn't feeling good and went to bed, so it was me, Ethan and Tori. Tori and I had gotten out and when Ethan did he took that first step and slipped, it is about 5 feet high with the stairs all I saw were the splits and thud, thud, thud all the way down..in that moment in my heart I knew it was going to be bad I was seriously waiting for a bone to be sticking out, of course he was howling..I told Tori go get your Dad quick. We were all by his side in an instant, he couldn't walk but we thought he probly strained alot. We managed to get him in the house and on the couch, the first night was bad lots of crying and pain. I was waiting for day 2 ad 3 to see bumps and bruises and they came HUGE ones, as time went on and we realized he wasn't able to walk we decided to take him to the Dr which was a feat because he basically cant walk.

My Dad came down since Bill had to work and we managed to get X-rays imagine our shock when the Dr came in and said he has broken 3 bones in the top of his foot...WHAT??? they are completely broken not fractured, of course made me feel horrible, but a big smile came accross his face and he told the Dr. wow!

We are now waiting for the referel to the orthapedic Dr and praying it doesn't mean surgery, he said it will be surgery if it's real bad and at very least a cast. Not good for a kiddo with SID Im NOT looking forward it.

We told him he is our hero, he took one for the team..lol if Bill or I had done that we probly would have broken a hip. He is of course getting all the attention, gatorade and pretty much anything else he wants right now..lol

The Dr said since our hands and feet we use the most and if we do not heal them properly then he could have issues with his foot for the rest of his life, thats what scares me given our medical history, he has already had issues with his ankles.

Im just praying that me and the Ortho will agree on a treatment plan and hopefully surgery unless 100% necessary. Please just send healing thoughts his way, pook kid can use all he can get right now, the pain is setting in and he is getting very cranky, the Dr. prescribed some high powered meds and said if he drools thats ok, I was like um no but they put him totally out at night but thats what he needs right now at night since it hurts when he moves.

Will let you all know as I found out what the plan is.

Hugs,

Lisa

PS Our Tori got her permit to drive on Friday the 13th so we told her it would always be a lucky day for her...lol so yall better stay off the roads when she is on..lol she would kill me if she knew I was saying this..lol

Hi Lisa,
I'm really sorry to hear this. Ethan must be pretty tough to hide the pain for 2 to 3 days after he fell. I never actually broke a bone before (except a few teeth), so only fractures, and that was plenty enough to make me howl too. I'm hoping he has a speedy recovery with as little pain as possible.

Since this was a serious accident, is there anything that can be done to the porch to prevent this from happening again? Maybe those non slip rubber mats or those stick-on anti-slip things?

Luckily I live in an apartment with no porches or steps whatsoever, only a slightly inclined walkway that leads to the door. That by itself would make it harder for me to find a different home to live in.

I've been through broken bones and the pain can be very bad until it's been set or mended. I had to have surgery for mine - multiple fractures of my tibia and fibia. They put a metal plate in along with nine hunking great screws. They took it all out about 18 months later and I got to keep the metalwork. My kids LOVED it - chunky stainless steel!

Hope Ethan gets well soon - I'll be thinking of him.
