Hi smokin63 - I had a fentanyl patch last year and found it very manageable. It delivered a nice steady amount of the drug without any ups and downs and I adjusted to it quite quickly. I was able to keep working and my coworkers let me know that I was my usual self most of the time - i.e. not acting drugged! It was a bit tough coming off - withdrawals didn't last too long but that was the most challenging part. You'd have a similar problem with any opioids.

if you mean just pain pills, then i haven't done that.

if you mean nsaids as well, well my stomach can't handle those either, and they give me edema as well.

however i've been quite successfully wearing a nsaid patch over my SI, 24/7, changing it every 12 hours since the beginning of april, no problems.

and i have a topical nsaid gel / cream that the compounding pharmacist makes up, KIP gel (first 3 letters of the three topical nsaids), that works well on specific trouble spots.

and another member talks about a topical cannabis ointment that she says is the best muscle relaxant in the world (or something to that effect), so if medical marijuana is an option where you live, you might want to consider that as well; its not here, so i can't.

but if you mean true pain meds, then go with wendy's advice.

I had the same problem. I have been taking anti inflammatories for over thirteen years. My stomach was a mess. I heard some pharmacist/doctors recommending a zinc-carnosine complex and thought I would try it. The name of the product that I take is PepzinGi. You don't need a prescription. It has completely healed my stomach. It took a few weeks of consistent use of one to two per day. Now I just take a maintenance dose of one every other day. When ever I stop it all together in a few weeks the stomach issues come back. I wish I could let everyone know about this product. It is a wonderful product. You can purchase it through iherb.com and the link is: http://www.iherb.com/Doctor-s-Best-PepZinGl-Zinc-L-Carnosine-Complex-120-Veggie-Caps/2467?at=0 I really hope that you try it. It really works.
