the reason i'm posting it here, another conversation on here made me realize this could be quite useful for any of us with gastrointestinal issues. seems like its got to be a large percentage of people here; seems to go with the territory.

black raspberries are my favorite! the peach colored ones next favorite.

raspberries are great, and so low maintenance. just make sure you have plenty of room for them, they multiply faster than rabbits! LOL!

when we lived in virginia, after about 3 years of putting the bushes in, hubby potted up about 20 of the new plants, and i gave them away at work, with the same warning.

many of the bushes we have now, started as babies from a friend of ours, who in her enthusiasm bought a few of each variety, then realized one of each would be more than enough. from a little "twig" a few years ago, those bushes are huge now. thankfully we have plenty of room for them.

I grew up on a farm and so many years ago (I was still in high school!) a single wild raspberry began growing alongside the garage. It was loving watered by our dog at the time who also was happy to enjoy the fruits of his labour. LOL Would you believe it has been over 30 years and this raspberry still continues to provide fruit? It is still loving tendered by another farm dog, Toby. As Toby gets older he carefully leaves some untouched fruit for the younger kids in the family and no longer waters the plants. LOL

I have Hereditary Fructose Intolerance in combination with Fructose 1,6-Diphosphatase Deficiency. As far as I've been able to find out, only one case has been reported in the literature and that was infant who did not make it.

I am completely missing the liver enzyme (Aldolase B) needed to break down fructose, and am also severely deficient in Fructose 1,6-Diphosphatase.

As a result, fruit and veggies are to me what rat poison is to you. The slightest morsel sends me tails-pinning back into the abyss (acute hypoglycemia coupled w/metabolic acidosis)and I turn back into a giant contracture w/living rigamoritis.

I also have Ehlers-Danlos Type 3. Over the course of several decades, I went from being as flexible as a rubberband to a stiff...couldn't bend w/my back for almost 3 years...had to wear compression gloves and splints on my wrists and thumbs and braces on my ankles, knees and elbows. I didn't know from one minute to the next if I could use my hands, walk, stand or even get into a car. I had spasticity, tendonitis where the tendons attach to the bone, myofascitis, hypertonia, myotonia, chronic contractures, edema - all of which resolve upon complete avoidance of the problem sugars and olgiosaccaride, and all which returns w/a vengence upon the slightest accidental dietary indiscretion.

I am waiting now to be evaluated for AS. My sacroiliac muscle is so compromised at this point that it tore last week and now I'm having to wear an SI belt in order to be able to use my leg and walk.

I must avoid all things fructose and sucrose like the plague but it took me a long time to find all the hidden sources. For example, 100% pure cornstarch is okay. Heating it, however, turns it into fructose. Fructans, or ogliosaccharides, are found in many veggies as well as grain and soy - so I must avoid all those as well. The human body turns sucrose into fructose so I can't have anything with sucrose either.

For some reason, I can't have any dairy either. Nor fish, leftover meat or digestive enzymes. That's where I think enteropathic arthropathy enters the picture. And given my last x-rays, AS is high on the list. Oh! And I was Dx w/dybiosis. All, I believe, are complications from untreated HFI and FDPase Deficiency. The fructose 1-phosphate builds up in the small intestine, liver and kidneys, impairing their ability to rid the body of waste and so on. We'll see...
