Came across these links on the benefits of olive oil. One thing I like to do is use a cheaper oil for cooking with, and have a better quality one for putting on me salads and whatnot. Looks like that is a good practice to stick to... smile

Hopefully you aren't cooking with those rancid RBD oils. They'll reek havoc on your body!

Kind Regards,

I won't use cheap oil... Sorry, but, there is some real bad stuff out there. I basically don't fry, dislike fatty foods. When I do need to, then often use coconut oil, otherwise the best oil for frying (olive oil not recommended for frying I seem to recollect) and good ole butter.

BTW was summat about butter being 'better' than olive oil. Will see IF I can locate the article again - might have been an AOL news item.

Hope y're doing good Kurumi... hugss

Hehehehe... no, to clarify, when I'm sauteeing me vege I don't use the super expensive EVOO, but the slightly less expensive one. Wish I could get some avocado oil easily here. Was loving that when I was back Downunder.
RBD oils? Heat has fried my brain, and I can't think what that might be. confused

http://www.thevegetariansite.com/health_oliveoil.htm

Here's an old one on olive oil, butm NOT what I'm looking for. Chances of finding it are now slim. Tried a google, but not there. Was VERY recent, like in the past few days. new evidence saying that butter was *better than olive oil. Interesting.

IF I *ever do find it then will post the link.

Found 'a' link to the study elsewhere...

Washington:

"Olive oil has been studied very thoroughly, and its benefits are often extolled. Butter may be good for you after all, claims a new study.

"The research by Lund University in Sweden shows that butter leads to considerably less elevation of blood fats after a meal compared with olive oil and a new type of canola and flaxseed oil.

"The main explanation for the relatively low increase of blood fat levels with butter is that about 20 per cent of the fat in butter consists of short and medium-length fatty acids. These are used directly as energy and therefore never affect the blood fat level to any great extent.

"A further explanation, which we are speculating about, is that intestinal cells prefer to store butter fat rather than long-chain fatty acids from vegetable oils. However, butter leads to a slightly higher content of free fatty acids in the blood, which is a burden on the body," explains Julia Svensson, a doctoral candidate in Biotechnology and Nutrition at Lund University."

Would be interesting to read the full paper - PubMed might have it...

That first link, the one on UC, is talking about oleic acid, which it does say is also in butter. But I guess they're trying to encourage people to use plant oils rather than animal fats...

Am doing well, Molly. Been thinking of you in the last couple of days, wondering what you've been up to. Low and behold, up you pop again.... laugh

Can't keep me down too long <LOL>

Had visitors and been v v busy with garden: potager, pond, clearing, developing etc and of course, the endless watering in the heat wave (so cold now, yuck). Hardly had time to get on line at all (box heaving with mail...) but with this cold snap, well, warmer indoors! Trying to catch up... 'smile' :))

i'm a big fan of olive oil (EVOO) but that's just me. but don't fry much anyway, but do like it for roasting vegetables or in various salads, etc. been using the nut oils a little for green salads, nuts and their oils are very good for raising HDLs and lowering triglycerides, something i've been focussed on doing, and i've been quite successful, so i guess there really is some truth to it after all. smile
