If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I came across this article which I know will be of interest given some recent discussions in one of the threads. In March the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a meta-analysis... <snip> (which)... found no association between the amount of saturated fat consumed and the risk of heart disease. The Pubmed citation for the meta-analysis is here .

Mmmm... lamb fat.... *drool* I keep pan juices/fat from roasts etc to use in other cooking, adds flavour and extra calories. I have recently reintroduced butter to my diet, and by gum, everything does taste better with a bit of butter! Has helped me put back on some much needed weight too. I rolled my eyes at this, though: Another issue facing regulatory agencies, notes Harvard’s Stampfer, is that “the sugared beverage industry is lobbying very hard and trying to cast doubt on all these studies.”

it seems like all the fat myths are getting busted. eat fat -> get fat = busted eat fat -> high cholesterol -> heart disease = busted as total cholesterol isn't very significant, it is the HDL/LDL ratio that is important and as Freddie showed recently, his ratio dramatically improved on a high fat diet. also CRP is now considered to be one of the indicators of heart disease risk. leptin levels in the body correlate with CRP levels and more fat & less carbs lowers leptin levels.
its quite funny that we complain sometimes about doctors not providing any dietary advice for AS when one of the main pieces of dietary advice to come out of the medical establishment "less fat, more carbs" seems to have had the exact opposite impact on health that it was intended to. i wonder if fat is now going to pass the torch on to sugar and refined carbs as public enemy no.1.
even though i don't do a starch restrictive diet i've been adding in a lot more fat lately. i find that fat keeps me full for much longer and i eat less as you don't need much of it to get a serious dose of energy as it is so calorie dense.

Interestingly the article posed the question "Will the more recent thinking on fats and carbs be reflected in the 2010 federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans?". It depends on the strength of the evidence explains Robert C Post Director of the US Dept of Agriculture's Centre for Nutrition Policy and Promotion.
Conflict of interest?
The food pyramid with large carbohydrate base was invented by the Dept of Agriculture!
The world's population is already way too big for us to be able to abandon our grain-based ways of living in any meaningful way.

I don't read that the problem is the carbs or a grain based diet. the problem is the "REFINED" grains. We over process the food.
We have seen a switch to advise on whole grains and not refined grains by the medical community lately.
Move back to whole grains and less sugar for carbs and fat is not so bad is all this is saying. Good advice indeed.
No families take so little medicine as those of doctors, except those of apothecaries.

Hi drizzit, do you remember the lectin stories we discussed here a couple of months ago? Most data concluded towards avoiding whole grains, wich could be potentialy more harmfull (due to high lectin content) than processed grains...
