Honestly when will it end. I know AS is a life long thing but geepers.

As some of you know I had a blood clot in my left leg after getting back from the nipper state titles. The leg has continued to trouble me. I have had continual pain in the back of my knee and sweeling in my calf muscle and off and on numbness from the knee down. I went back to the doctor today to have it checked out and turns out I have a burst cyst in the back of my knee. Yay for me, another thing to add to the list.
There is no treatment and I just have to wait for it to heal.
Has anyone else experienced this?

That wouldn't be so hard to take if I was able to walk properly or I had my disability parking permit.
But after 3 weeks of waiting I get a letter in the mail with the original permit form attached and another new form for the doctor to fill in. They say they need more detail to show that I require the permit.
Apparently when I send this back in their own doctors will then look at it and compare what they know and decide if I should get it or not. GRRR when I rang them, they hadn't even heard of AS.

My poor boy Jake also had to see the doctor to see how the pain killers they percribed him are going. At first he did get some relief but not lasting results. Poor little thing has been told there is nothing they can do for him now and he just has to put up with the pain. Even though that means some days he can hardly get out of bed.
I find the pain hard enough to deal with let alone being a young kid and not being able to join in playing with his friends.

So I guess while I may get bummed out with my pain at least I am an old nag. LOL

Hey if you can't laugh, what's the point.

a burst Baker's cyst symptoms are much like those of blood clots: redness and pain in the calf. The fluid from the ruptured cyst is absorbed by the body. When this happens, the Baker's cyst temporarily disappears, but it usually comes back.
check out this blog if you want to read about my bakers cyst story. https://www.kickas.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=373276#Post373276

I read that link.
One question if you dont mind.
Did the broken knee cap have anything to do with the cyst?
I only ask as I broke my kneecap late last year. The cyst is in the back of the knee though.

Hi Aussiegirl, Baker's cysts are common, unfortunately there isn't much that can be done, they are painful but on the up side they do burst as times giving some relief. Your broken knee cap (ouch by the way) didn't have anything to do with it. Many people with arthritis get bakers cysts. If surgically removed, they can still come back. There are many articles out there on the subject. I'm not computer savy like Molly who can pull them up and post them here. Maybe she will find a couple for you.

Thanks Cindy.
I will have a search for info. Have found it quicker and easier to ask here though. LOL

Odd coinsidence(sp) with the kneecap thing though.
Show me not to try and walk through a door frame. I walk through the doorway now. LOL

maybe (my guess is probably, but its just a guess) - any excess Synovial fluid can end up back there.
when the break heals it leaves a rough surface joint but we need a smooth surface for a nice joint surface. it can be shaved smooth again by ortho.
I had a bakers cyst before i broke my knee and was from a spur in the knee joint. I had it aspirated (puss sucked out) by the Rhuemy, then steriod splurted on the spur for good measure. Some times it takes a few injections to get it feeling alright again - had one of these suckers on bottom of heel also, that took about 5 goes before that settled. for a while there i thought i was going to end up with more barnicals than a sea water jetty post.

Oh hon, that's just nasty!! I hope it heals double-quick!

And poor little Jake. You know, you might want to touch base with Lady Buggie. Her daughter was dx'd with Juvenile Arthritis last year. Perhaps she'll have some suggestions. I'm also hoping that Lori will see this and chime in, as her son was dx'd with AS at age 9 and he was hit pretty hard. I know how hard it must be to watch. hugss

Warm hugs,

Kat

Sweetheart, I am sorry...a blood clot is down right scary, luckily a cyst may not be but doesn't mean it isn't just as painful or scary, Im just glad it was a cyst in most cases they work themselves out.

My thoughts are if your immune system is compromised you may been an antibiotic if there is an infection.

Kills me to hear about our kids and pain, my 3 have gone thru various issues I know have to do with AS but so far at this point we have worked thru them with minimal intervention..my fear for them is the future...

Lots of hugs,

Lisa

sorry to hear of your frustrations, i know, grrr!

these cysts hurt like the dickens, but at least nothing "serious". i have a small one in my wrist, captured by an mri that thankfully is painfree, had a girl friend with a big one there and she said it hurt like mad, but they drained it and then it was fine. wonder if ice or heat or alternating ice and heat would allow the blood to flow faster and the fluid to dissipate sooner? works for a lot of things.

sorry about your little boy in pain. i really wish pain was something others could feel with you. just wish they knew. hugss
