Wanyed to wish rveryone a safe and comfortable weekend better than my extreme pains no matter how gently I try to move or cough- this is excrutiating. Feels a little better today and can't barely wait till yhis wednesday to see if they can give me anything more powerful than MS-Contin... any suggestions Please? BTW I meant to say the pain is from my broken rib(s).
Any suggestions beyond ice-packs will be much appreciated!

Oooh, Russell, that does not sound like fun in any way, shape, or form! How did you manage to do that? Here's hoping they heal rapidly and you start feeling better very soon.

How did you break your ribs, Russell? Did I miss a post here somewhere? I don't remember reading that you had done that. Ow ow ow ow... how painful. Also - be very careful because when you can't breathe fully, you run a greater risk of pneumonia.

Im not sure you can do anything for broken ribs can you?

I do know that you can wrap your middle and I have heard that the pain is not as bad so you might try that.

sorry to hear about your ribs, that sounds awful!

don't know what to tell you to make you more comfortable, but hoping for a speedy recovery.

The breaking my ribs was complete uncoordination in our garage which is stuffed with lots of things since my daughter and our grandbabies moved back in with my wife (Karen) and me. Wouldn't ypu know my no-good-for-nothing son-in-law as soon as he recieved his US citizenship he lrft my daughter and granbabies and moved out causing Carin to file for divorce and child support.
Any whooo when I was standing up out in the garage I lost my balance a fell hard, my left lower ribs hitting the somewhat curved edge of the lid on one of our 3-4 foot high freezers, still is really painful,I find myself wanting demerol or fentanyl or anything that would just take the edge off it. Adding 2 5mg lortabs(hydrocodone+tylenol) which with my 2 60mg MS-Contins did absolutely nada. Any one got an idea for such a sharp stabbing pain? no help from ice packs either... help!

I had a son-in-law like that, Russell. And my daughter and her six week old baby moved in with us. One of the wonderful things to come out of that story, though, was the fabulous bond I have with that grandchild who is now 4 1/2. I love all my grandchildren (I have three) but I definitely have a very special bond with Sennen. They lived with us until Sennen was about 18 months old and I missed her so much when they finally moved out.

Now that I read another post that Brad made tonight, I can remember the name of the med I though was most effective against fracture pain. It was Methadone.

Go ask your doctor for a "rib belt", I think you can buy them too. They are nothing but a giant elastic bandage to wrap once around your ribs, but it sure helped me and my fractures (with the help of pain meds of course). I never actually 'broke' any body parts though, so this may or may not help. I'm hoping it would though.

Wow that must be terrible having AS and broken ribs is not good Like Wendy said I hope its not affecting your breathing too much you dont need pneumonia as well.
Sorry I cant be off more help. I know that in the UK they dont strap broken ribs anymore not sure why might be because of it restricting the breathing even more.
